Making sure your makeup stays in place all day isn’t as easy as it seems. On normal days I don’t really care how long my makeup lasts. However, when I have a long day or an important day ahead of me I do want to make sure that my makeup stays where it should and that it will look fresh all day long. For those days I do have a couple of special products and techniques that I like using in order to make everything last. Because I’m not the worst of people I decided to be nice and share those tips and tricks with you guys. Just kidding. It’s just another one of my basic blog post ideas. Anyway, if you want to learn how to make your makeup last, make sure you continue reading this post!
Set & Prime Baby!
Some of the most important things to do is to properly prime and set your makeup. This is the base and the protective layer that will make sure your makeup will stay in place all day long and stay looking fresh. As for primer I think it’s important to go for something that matches your skin type. One thing I do keep in mind while looking for a longlasting primer is that it’s either mattifying or at least not super glowy. One that I really like using is the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer. This one blurs my pores, smoothens my complexion and it really holds on to the makeup I put on top of it. I also really love the Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base. That one works wonders for me as well!
As for setting I think it’s important to use a setting spray rather than a finishing spray. This is really going to hold on to the makeup and keep it looking fresh throughout the day. I have tried my fair shade of setting sprays throughout the years and for me there’s only one winner in that field. I’m obviously talking about the Urban Decay De-Slik Makeup Setting Spray. This is going to put a barrier between your makeup and the world and make it look bomb all day long. I’m telling you. All-day-long!
Keep It Light & Keep It Locked
This next one is more of a tip, from me to you. Something that works really well for me in terms of longlasting makeup is using lightweight makeup. I feel like heavy makeup sweats or glides off easier and when you’re using heavy makeup it’s more obvious when it’s starting to fade. So keep it light. Something I recently bought that really fits this description is the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation. It is very lightweight and therefore doesn’t come off as easily. I really love the way it looks on my face as well!
In terms of concealer I just have one I think is worth mentioning when it comes to longlasting makeup. This Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer is one of the most longlasting concealers I have ever tried. It’s a jar concealer but that doesn’t make it less appropriate for using it underneath the eyes. It actually performs really well underneath there. And it stays in place all day. This really does not come off.
Another tip is to make sure you really set your makeup into place using a powder. I know that this might sound like an obvious one, but I also know that there are lots of people out there who don’t bother to powder. Maybe because you have dry skin or because you think your face is matte enough already. I get that, but if you don’t want your makeup to start moving you really need to set it. A personal favourite of mine is the MAC Blot Powder Pressed. This is a really quick and easy product to use that makes a huge difference in the staying power of everything underneath.
Blush Without A Brush & Glow Until You Go
Moving onto blush. One tip I can give you is to use cream blushes. Because you can set those in place with powder they stay in place a lot longer than a powder blush. You can also use a stick and powder it with a bit of blush as well, for that extra intensity. However, if you don’t feel like using a cream blush, the Nars Blush in Torrid can be your saviour. For some reason Nars blushes are really, really long lasting so those are a great option!
When it comes to highlighter I have the same thing to say about it as about the blushes. Go for a cream. I do think that cream highlighters, like the Benefit Watt’s Up Highlighter, have a very pretty and natural looking effect on the skin. Especially when used in combination with a powder highlight it can be pretty dang blinding. But the thing is, cream products just stay in place better. They really stick to your face like no powder can. Especially this Benefit one is a real favourite of mine when it comes to cream blushes.
And with that being said I think I covered all of my tips and product recommendations for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post and be sure to let me know what your tips and tricks are or product recommendations for making your makeup bullet proof all day long!
