Laura Mercier has been a well-known and well-loved brand for years now and one of the products this brand is so famous for is their Tinted Moisturiser Oil-Free. I have heard a million and one things about this in the past and it just really made me want to try this product for myself and see what the fuzz is about. It did take about six million ages to finally go ahead and buy it because something in my body stopped me from doing it every single time, but recently I finally got my hands on it and so I’m reviewing it today. If you’re interested in reading my opinion on this product, make sure you continue reading!
First things first, packaging. The first thing I noticed about the packaging is that it’s pretty large. The product comes in a shiny brown tube and it’s big. Way bigger than I expected actually. It also comes with more product than most foundation products nowadays do. The tube it filled with 50 ml of product instead of the standard 30 ml. That’s already a huge plus for me because this is an expensive product and unlike some girls who love using up their products, I like mine to last forever so I never have to go out and splurge on it again.
Aside from the fact that the tube is large and that you get way more product than you get when you buy a standard sized base product, the tube itself looks pretty good too. I like the sleek and simple design and I think that the colour is very elegant. The non-oil-free version has a different colour on the tube which I like too, but I think this brown colour is even prettier. I also like that they kept it very simple and minimalistic, but not in a boring way of course. It’s just perfect in my opinion. I like it.

Moving on to the shade. The shade selection wasn’t very impressive but it didn’t necessarily disappoint me either. The lightest shade is called Porcelain and I don’t think this is a very light shade and it’s even half a tint to dark for my own skin tone, but I wanted to have it so bad that I decided I could get away with that shade difference. Anyway, this lightest shade, porcelain, has a bit of a yellowy undertone to it. I always think that yellow undertones are the best undertones so I’m personally a big fan of that, but if you’re really pink or if you just don’t dig the yellow undertone look, this shade might not be that great for you.
Having said that let’s just focus on the variety of shades they have. They have a total of 15 different shades ranging from not too pale to not very deep. The transition into the deep shades does sadden me a little, there’s only one reasonably deep shade and I don’t think that’s going to be a match for all deep-skinned girls out there. So Laura you might want to work on that. However I do think 15 shades is pretty reasonable compared to the 3 different shades most drugstore brands have. Let’s be honest that’s really sad.
Enough about the shade, let’s start talking about the claims that Laura Mercier has made regarding this product. According to Laura Mercier this is an award-winning, demi-matte multi-tasker for a healthy, no-makeup look. The lightweight formula is supposed to help control oil breakthrough and adds a soft hint of colour that evens and enhances the skin without hiding it. You can use it in place of foundation for an effortless, natural complexion. She also claims that it’s a stay-true colour and that it wears all day long. There’s SPF 20 in it and antioxidant vitamin E to help protect the skin from the damaging effects of the environment. It delivers sheer coverage, a demi-matte finish and it’s ideal for normal to oily skin types.
Overall I think that this tinted moisturiser is going to be the perfect product for everyone who likes a light base but does want to even out their complexion while still taking care of their skin and protecting it from the environment. I usually don’t hate the feeling of a somewhat heavier foundation, but I was very curious to find out what it would be like to use something as lightweight as this.
Before I start talking about coverage, I first want to go over the texture part and how it blends and all that kind of fun stuff. This tinted moisturiser has a pretty fluid texture. It’s not very watery at all, it isn’t extremely runny, but it is a relatively thin formula. I do like that because that makes it feel very lightweight on the skin. It actually doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything when you’re wearing this foundation.
The consistency also feels a bit silky and soft and that helps in the blending proces. So far I have only used this with a Beautyblender, but I can imagine it working great as well if you’re blending it into the skin using a brush or just your fingers. It’s a very easy and effortless product to work into the skin, just like Laura claimed it would be. It’s definitely not a product that needs time or amazing lighting to look good and therefore I love using this when I have a very early morning or when I’m away from home. It’s very fool proof.
What I love even more about this foundation is the way it lays on the skin. It’s such a natural and smooth look. At the moment I do have a lot of stuff going on on my skin and it’s uneven and textured. However, this tinted moisturiser succeeds in making it look as if my skin is actually pretty smooth and healthy. I think it looks just stunning. It really evens out and smoothens the look of my skin while covering up imperfections.
Coverage wise it is a rather sheer coverage, but it’s not as sheer as I’d expect from a tinted moisturiser. It does almost completely cover up my redness. The only thing that does definitely need some extra attention are my blemishes, but I don’t blame it for that. However, if you do want the coverage to be a little more opaque, you can easily build it up by applying another layer on top and it will still look incredibly natural.
Aside from being the best product ever Laura Mercier also claims that this tinted moisturiser helps to control the oil on your skin. In my opinion it really does. Whenever I don’t use a mattifying foundation my skin gets greasy like a frying oil. However, with this product I don’t get like that at all. Of course I do still get shiny in certain areas, especially after working in a warm environment or things like that, but it’s not even close to being as greasy as it would be if I were to use other products. I’m impressed by that!
Lastly this tinted moisturiser is just bullet proof. I don’t know how it does it, but it stays in place all day long. Without fail. And I’m impressed by that. Even on days when I have to work all day long and when I might even sweat a little, this product does not budge!
Overall I’m just obsessed with the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Oil-Free. I did know, or at least expect, that it was going to be an amazing product since it’s loved by so many of you, but I didn’t expect it to be this great. It’s definitely the nicest foundation-like product I have ever tried in my entire life. From the texture to the way it sits on the skin to how well it stays in place, everything about this product is incredible and if you haven’t done so, I highly, highly recommend giving it a try. It’s definitely worth the hype and the splurge!
That’s it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know if you’ve ever tried one of the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturisers and if so, let me know what you think of them!
