For the longest time I’ve been wanting to try one of Laura Mercier’s foundations. I’ve heard so many good things about them over the years and now I really wanted to see for myself how good they really are. I went to the store and told the lady at the counter what I was looking for in a foundation and she recommended the Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide to me. After trying it out it’s time for me to share my opinions. If you’re interested to find out more about this foundation, make sure you continue reading!
The Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide comes in an incredibly fancy looking packaging. The box is just grey but the tube itself is just gorgeous. The main part is made out of a very dark blue/purplish material with a sheen to it and the letters on it as well as the lid are silver. I really love how luxurious it looks. It makes putting it on in the morning even more exciting.
The tube contains 30 ml of fluide which is pretty standard for a foundation/fluide. It is available in a total of 23 shades ranging from pale to deep so this foundation is pretty much available for everyone.
The colour I bought is called Crème. It’s one of their lightest shades and has a warm to neutral undertone. I consider myself as someone with a neutral undertone so this is a great match for me. I feel like this shade is perfect for most pale girls out there, but if you’re really pink or cool it might not be since it is on the yellowy side.
The thing that sets this foundation (or fluide) apart from other foundations is the fact that it has a unique formula. It has this bi-phase formula that you have to activate by shaking the bottle and tapping on the top. If you don’t do this (which obviously I didn’t the first time I used it) the foundation will come out extremely watery, yellowy and it pretty much won’t have any coverage.
When you do activate the foundation as described on the tube the foundation will definitely be in a lot better state. The formula is still very thin and watery but in a different way. It says that this is a very weightless foundation and I totally agree with that. Because it’s such a thin formula the foundation is just impossible to feel once it’s applied. It really won’t feel like you are wearing any foundation. I have tried other foundations that come close to that, but nothing is as weightless as this foundation.
This foundation was recommended to me because I was looking for something mattifying, which is foundation is. It has a very natural finish, it’s just like normal skin. It’s mattifying, it will make your skin look like normal skin, but it’s not extremely matte in a way it looks unnatural. For me this is a very big plus, however if you have dryer skin, this might be a deal breaker for you since it is slightly on the dryer side.
When it comes to coverage I have mixed feelings. It’s definitely a very buildable foundation. You can layer it and build it up to the coverage you desire without it looking like one big pancake. I personally do prefer my foundations quite high coverage. I don’t have terrible skin at all, but I just like it if my face looks as flawless as possible.
If you want to achieve that look with this foundation you will have to build it up. If you apply one layer you get medium coverage. Not medium to high, more light to medium but more on the medium side if that makes any sense. If you apply one more layer it will become medium to high and that does look really pretty.
The way this foundation dries down is very unique. That because it dries like it’s skin. The first few minutes after application I don’t like that a lot. I always feel like I want more coverage, I want a smoother finish and so on. However after about 10 to 15 minutes it’s completely different. The foundation needs a little time to settle down and when it does it does look absolutely gorgeous.
But if you ask me if this foundation is worth the money, I don’t know. It’s not as breath taking as the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation. I do love this foundation, it’s different than the foundations I’ve tried before and in general it’s just a very unique foundation, but I feel like only a specific group of people will like this. It’s in my opinion not a very universal foundation.
But even though I’m not completely sure if it’s worth the money, I do really enjoy using it. For me this foundation does work. It matches my skin, it makes it look flawless but in a natural way and I really like how you don’t feel like you’re wearing any foundation. I do recommend it to those who struggle with oily skin because it is a great product for those girls, but if you don’t you might not want to splurge on this product.
The Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide is available at Bijenkorf and online for €48.
That was it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and let me know which foundation you enjoy using!
