One of the products that came inside this month’s beauty box is the Illamasqua Hydra Veil. I had heard of the brand Illamasqua before, but I have never tried any of their products so far. When I found out one of the products that came inside this month’s box was by Illamasqua I got super excited. Today it’s time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out how I like my first Illamasqua product, make sure you continue reading!
So, first things first: the packaging. Because it’s a little travel size it does come in a smaller packaging than it usually does. This is only 6ml and the regular packaging contains 30ml. Packaging wise both sizes are very similar, but just keep in mind the normal one is bigger.
So, the primer comes in a very pretty black box with some yellowy/golden details. It’s typical Illamasqua and I like that. When you open it up you’ll find a little jar. This jar is, just like the box, almost completely black and has the brand name written on it in a goldeny colour. It’s very simple and classic and I like it. I don’t know if I like the fact that it’s a primer in a jar, but look-wise I do like it!
On the back of the box you’ll find a rather large ingredient list. I have to admit that I haven’t spit through it yet and find out whether or not that’s a good thing, but from what I’ve heard this primer is supposed to be quite effective. Something I do want to mention, regarding the ingredients, before I move on is that this is a fragranced primer. It’s not the worst or strongest smelling thing ever, but it does have perfume in it and if you don’t like that, you might want to skip this product.
The most outstanding thing about this product has to be the texture. I have seen primers in many shapes and forms, but nothing even comes close to this. It’s a sort of gelly product in a semi-solid form. It’s not solid like a rock, but solid in a gelly way. It’s very hard to describe but it’s just not liquid.
In order to use it you ‘break’ off of scoop a bit of product out of the jar and massage it onto your skin. It’s feels very fresh and cooling and that’s a great thing in my opinion. It makes me feel a little more awake in the morning. Once you’ve massaged it onto your skin you let it sit for a few seconds and go ahead and apply your make up.
When it comes to the priming quality of this product I’m quite impressed. Because of its weird texture I wasn’t sure whether or not I was going to like the way it felt on my skin and the way it worked in combination with my foundation (and the rest of my makeup), but surprisingly enough it actually did an amazing job.
Once applied this product will make your skin feel so incredibly soft and smooth it’s almost impossible for your makeup not to apply incredibly smoothly. It actually glides on. Because of the primer I also experienced that I’m less likely to get patches or blotchiness on my skin and my makeup overall just looks a lot better.
When it comes to lasting time this also isn’t a joke. I find it hard to judge whether or not primers actually make your makeup last longer, but I do feel like it does. Of course I don’t have hard scientific proof, but it feels like it’s working so that’s something, right?
Overall I think this Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer is quite an amazing product. Too bad I only got such a small jar of it because it will run out very quickly, but I’m glad I got the chance to give it a try. It’s one of the best primers I have tried so far and I highly recommend giving it a try!
The Illamasqua Hydra Veil is available at Lookfantastic for €39,95.
That was it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know which primer is your absolute favourite!
XOXO, Nicole.
