How To Break Your Boring Beauty Routine

10/09/2018

A while ago I realised that I wasn’t really enjoying applying my makeup as much as I used to. Somehow I didn’t feel like experimenting anymore with new products and I actually started buying way less products. I also didn’t really feel like blogging about it anymore and I just did the same boring look every day. One day I thought, maybe I’m just in a makeup rut. I’m doing the same thing over and over again and I’m pretty bored with it. At that point I started thinking about how to get out of a said makeup rut and I finally enjoyed doing makeup again and it had a big influence on my blog as well. Because I know I’m probably not the only one who has ever been in that situation, I decided to share my tips on how to break a boring beauty routine in today’s post. So, if you’re in one and want to know how to get out, make sure you keep on reading!

1. Stop using the same products over and over again

My first tip is a very obvious one, but stop using the same things over and over again. You’ve gotten to a point where you’re not experimenting like you used to and that does get boring. So try to use something different. Shop your own stash, I’m sure you have a lot of products in there that are very interesting and worth a try. If you start using something different again and switch things up regularly, you might realise how fun it used to be to do that.

Obviously it could also be the case that you like the fact that you now have a solid routine filled with products that work for you really well and you don’t want to change things up. If that’s the case, these tips might not be for you. These tips are really aimed at those who love to play with makeup, but lost that love over time.

2. Don’t have an everyday makeup drawer/bag

My next tip helped me a lot. Stop having an everyday makeup drawer. This will result in you grabbing those products instead of using different things every now and then because it’s close to you and more convenient. I know that it does work quicker in the morning and I do still have a drawer filled with products I use a lot, but make sure you don’t make it too easy for yourself to keep grabbing the same things over and over again.

If you do really want to hold on to that daily makeup drawer, try to push yourself to at least grab one or two items from your regular collection every day. This way you’ll at least switch things up regularly.

3. Buy something new that is a little different

Another tip that I used and that really helped me is to buy something different than I’d normally do. Buy something that, for a change, isn’t something you’ve already heard tons about. Buy something without reading reviews first or without every Youtuber talking about it. Buy something that you really want to discover, that you think will work for you and that you’re curious about. If it turns out to be great you’ve found yourself a hidden gem and I’m pretty sure that will make your makeup heart skip a beat!

4. Try to recreate a makeup tutorial

Something that helped me as well is to try and recreate a tutorial. This definitely doesn’t have to be a makeup look that is totally crazy, you can also recreate a look that is very similar to your daily makeup look. But just using different products and different techniques. It will help you learn to do your makeup in a different way, maybe even in a better way than you already do. And it will make you try something new for once. This really helped me out a lot!

5. Use a product or a technique you’d normally never use/do

This is another thing in the category trying something new. I actually did it a couple of weeks ago myself. I personally never use liquid liner because I feel like I’m not good at it and I think it doesn’t look good on me. However, I decided to try it and it turned out really pretty. I was actually able to do it and I liked the finished look. So, now I found something new I can add to my looks to add a finishing touch and I’ve got a bit more confidence in my own skills, which makes me want to try even more new things!

6. Use the same eyeshadow palette as always, but create a new look

My last tip might be one of the easiest one. It allows you to still use those products that you love so dearly you want to use them everyday, but you do have to do something different with it. I know like now other how easy it gets to create that exact same look with the exact same palette everyday. It’s really quick and you know it works for you. But if it’s starting to get boring to you, why not use some different shades you haven’t tried yet. Just give it a go and maybe you’ll find a new top combination inside that same beloved palette!

And that’s pretty much it for my tips on how to get out of a beauty rut. I hope these tips were helpful to you in any way and if not, well, I’m sorry for that! Anyway, thank you guys so much for reading today’s post and be sure to let me know what your tips are to keep makeup fun!
