Every year, around the holiday season, Hourglass launched a palette filled with some of their Ambient Lighting Powders. This year they did that as well. They actually launched two palettes. One filled with all kinds of Ambient Lighting Powders and one filled with just Ambient Lighting Blushes. Because I really like their blushes I decided to go for the blush palette. I already have one Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in the shade Mood Exposure and since that’s such a big favourite I have high hopes for this palette. I’ve been using it non-stop since I got it so I think it’s about time for a review. If you’re interested in finding out more about this palette, make sure you continue reading this post!
Like all Hourglass products, this Blush Quad comes in a really chic looking packaging. Normally the Hourglass packagings are a golden colour, but for this collection they actually used silver. I do personally prefer the look of gold, but I have to say I don’t hate the silver either. One thing I do kind of dislike is what they did to the bottom part of the palette. Where normally this part of the palette is made out of the same golden material as the lid, this time they used frosted plastic for it. This, to me, creates a bit more of a cheap-y look. It’s not like I fully hate it, but it’s just not as luxurious to me.
In terms of size the palette is definitely smaller than most of you would expect. That’s something I knew before I bought this palette. I can imagine that, if you don’t know it’s going to be small, you might be disappointed about that. But come on you guys, this is Hourglass. They are going to come out with insanely small packagings that make you reconsider your decision of buying it in the first place.
Price-wise I think this palette is pretty okay. It’s definitely high-end on a luxury, designer-brand level. But I don’t think it’s too bad either. You definitely don’t get four full-sized blushes. They are in fact not even close to full-size. But you do get four absolutely stunning blush colours all in one palette.
Hourglass Holiday 2019 Ambient Lighting Ghost Blush Quad – £45
So let’s take a look at the inside of this palette. Like I said, this palette comes with four blush shades from Hourglass. Hourglass did launch another palette in this same collection that comes with a variety of powders, not just blush. I chose to go for this palette because I really like their blushes and I didn’t really feel like trying anything else from their powder range at this point. I know that their blushes are top notch and I’d love to expand my collection of them.
This palette comes with one of Hourglass’ most popular blush shades and three brand new hues. I really like that about that. This makes this palette perfect for everyone. Even those who already own a couple of Hourglass blushes. On the other hand, if you do happen to fall in love with one of the new shades, I’m not sure you’ll be able to buy them full-size when you run out. But then again, who ever finishes a blush? I know I don’t.
Before we go in and discuss the shades, let’s first talk about what it is that makes these Hourglass blushes so special. To me the main reason why I love Hourglass blushes is because of the formula. They are very soft to the touch. They have like a silky-cottony feel to them. They are super easy to apply and to work with since they blend seamlessly. They are just super natural and really mix in with the skin like no other blush ever those. To me the Hourglass blushes are really the best in the bizz.
Having said that, let’s discuss the shades that are in this palette. I didn’t really realise that the picture above the swatch picture is the palette upside down and I took the swatches the other way around. But I’m sure you are smart enough to match the swatch to the shade right?
Surreal Effect – Surreal Effect is the first colour I swatched. If you hold the palette upright, this is the colour in the top left corner. It’s a bright pop of pink. A fresh colour. I think this looks absolutely stunning on the cheeks. It gives you that ‘fresh out of the snow’ blushed cheek look. I love it.
Brilliant Nude – This is the only non-new shade in this palette. According to Hourglass this is one of their best-selling blush shades. It’s a very neutral, browny kind of blush shade. Great for neutral days. If you hold the palette up right this is the shade in the top right corner.
Lucid Glow – Moving on to a peachy, goldeny colour. I really like this one. Because I have a very fair skintone I do need to be pretty lighthanded with this one. I can imagine it looking really stunning on more deeper skintones as well. This shade is located in the bottom left corner if you hold the palette in the upright position.
Infinite Flush – The last shade, Infinite Flush, which is located in the bottom right corner if you look at the palette in an upright position, is my very favourite shade out of the four. It’s a rosy pink colour and it’s totally up my alley. I really do gravitate towards this shade the most.
As you might be able to tell from looking at the picture, all four blush shades are nicely pigmented. Nothing too extreme, but exactly right. They also look very soft and even throughout the entire swatch and that’s exactly what it looks like on the skin as well. This blush applies very evenly. It’s just a slap-on-and-go kind of product and I love it.
I don’t think it’s a surprise that I absolutely love this Hourglass Ambient Lighting Ghost Blush Quad. It’s the first time I’ve bought one of these palettes from Hourglass and I definitely don’t regret it at all. This is just stunning. I love having a nice collection of blush shades in a compact packaging. It’s perfect for on the go. The quality of these blushes is just out of this world and all four shades are beautiful in my opinion. Yup, this is a winner for me!
And with that being said I’m ending today’s post. Thank you guys so much for reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of this blush palette. Which shade is your favourite out of the four?
