I already mentioned it in Monday’s post about my favourite makeup brands, but recently I have fallen in love with Hourglass. It’s a brand I’ve always wanted to try out, but until now I never really got the chance to do so. Back in London I finally bought my first two products from the brand -well, I actually got one of the products as a gift from my lovely boyfriend- and today I’m reviewing one of them. The product I’m reviewing today is the Hourglass Graphik Eyeshadow Palette in Ravine. If you’re interested in finding out more about this gorgeous looking palette, make sure you continue reading this post!
First things first, let’s discuss the packaging. I think we all know that Hourglass is just an incredible brand when it comes to their packagings. I don’t know who’s in charge of that, but that personal really got a good sense of style if you ask me. The colour of the packaging already adds something to the luxurious look of it and I like the shape as well. I love the rounded look of it and I really like how the opening isn’t in the centre of the packaging. I also like that they kept the design very minimalistic and simple, it’s clean and professional looking.
The size of the palette is really nice as well. The palette is quite small and thin and therefore it doesn’t take in much space at all. This makes it an amazing palette for travelling. It also comes with a huge mirror which always is a mega-plus in my book and it looks and feels very well made. Overall I just think that the packaging already deserves 5 stars. It’s pretty, it looks luxurious and it feels like it’s very well made. What more can a girl want?!
Hourglass Graphik Eyeshadow Palette in Ravine – £48
Like I mentioned before, and as you can see on the picture, the palette I bought is called Ravine. The Hourglass Graphik Eyeshadow Palettes come in four different versions. All come with rather natural shades and Ravine seemed to be the one that was most up my alley. I did think of getting a different shade too for a while, but this one seemed to have more of the things that I used in it than any of the other palettes did.
Ravine is actually the perfect everyday nude palette. It comes with a matte highlighting shade, a transition colour, a lid colour, a crease colour and a colour to darken up the crease even more. It really does have everything to it you could want and it has everything in it for the perfect everyday eyeshadow look.
An argument against this palette could be that the shades are very basic and simple, however I don’t completely agree with that. Why I don’t agree with that will be explained in a second. But even if you do still think that, even after reading my argument why that isn’t true in a second, I still think this palette could be a great buy. That because the quality of this palette is just beyond phenomenal. And having a set of high-quality neutrals in your collection isn’t a luxury.
Having said that, let’s start discussing the claims. According to Hourglass their Graphik Eyeshadow Palettes offer a saturated colour selection of five complementary shades for everyday and evening makeup looks. These finely milled, ultra-smooth powder eye colours are formulated with the highest concentration of pure pigment powder to deliver a true colour pay-off. With a velvety smooth texture, each of these matte and metallic shades are supposed to allow for flawless blending and effortless application to your desired finish, whether you’re opting for something subtle and neutral or dark and dramatic.
To be completely honest with you guys, the first time I read these claims I thought they sounded a little too good to be true and quite unrealistic. They make it sound as if this is gold in a palette. However, it really is true. Everything them claim is true and they are not exaggerating. These shadows have such a luxurious formula. They are very finely-milled, they feel soft and silky, the colour pay-off is just astounding and they are very easy to work with. They blend like a dream, they apply quick and easily and they just do everything you could which they would do and more. I really am blown away by these eyeshadows. I honestly didn’t know they made eyeshadows as amazing as these.
Moving on to the swatches. I think this is the right moment to explain why I don’t think these eyeshadows are very basic. If you look at them you can tell that even though these shades don’t seem to be that unique, they really are. Especially the shimmery shadows just have something to them, a specific tone and a type of glitter, that I have never seen before. It’s just so different from anything else.
And in addition to that, aren’t you just blown away by the pigment?! These swatches are honestly made with one simple swipe of colour. I didn’t even put much pressure on my finger when I applied them. They went on like a dream. I was so amazed by that. I have never seen pigment like this.
To top everything off these shadows are also very well pressed. They don’t cause any fall-out at all, they aren’t powdery, dusty or crumbly, they are just perfect. They do more than I could have imagined an eyeshadow could do and I love that about them. They also stay in place incredibly well, even when swatched on your hand with no base used whatsoever, these shadows just won’t budge!
Overall this palette really blew me away. I knew that there were some amazing eyeshadow palettes out there, but I didn’t know that there were palettes out there as amazing as this one. From the pigmentation to the formula of the shadows, everything about this palette is just phenomenal and in my opinion that is what makes this palette worth the money. It’s definitely a splurge, but it’s worth it in every single way!
That was everything for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of this palette and if you’re just as in love with it as I am!
