Recently I purchased my first ever Becca foundation, the Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme. I had never heard of this foundation, I hadn’t done my research on it, I just went for it. Because I didn’t know anything about the foundation and because I hadn’t read any reviews on it I was quite nervous about whether or not I would end up liking it. Today I’m going to tell you guys whether it ended up being a holy grail or a holy fail for me. If you’re interested in finding out, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off this review with discussing the packaging. This foundation comes in a very typical Becca packaging. The bottle is brown and the lid is silver. It’s very simple and basic but it’s classic Becca which makes it all okay. The unique thing about this packaging is that it does have a pump, but the little straw thingy that slurps up the product so you can pump it out of the bottle is extremely short, unlike most pump straw thingies. I have no idea why they did that, it doesn’t make any difference, but it’s something unique which is why I thought it would be worth mentioning.
The Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme comes in quite a few shades. They do have pretty light shades, a lot of medium tones and a couple of dark shades. I have to say that I wasn’t disappointed by the shade selection. For a makeup brand this isn’t bad at all!
The shade that I ended up getting is called Porcelain, which is the lightest shade in the range. Porcelain has a bit of a neutral to slightly cool undertone which is okay for my skintone. I’m more on the neutral side than the cool side, but it works great for me. It’s actually a really amazing match.
The Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme is quite a special foundation according to Becca. They say that it contains 21% pure pigment and 22% water, which is supposed to be very unique for a foundation. What this means is that this foundation is loaded with pigment and therefore very high coverage. Because of the water in it it’s supposed to be easy to blend and very lightweight on the skin. This foundation is supposed to be your full coverage foundation without the cake.
When it comes to the texture of the foundation I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. Most full coverage foundations are quite thick and heavy, but like Becca promised this is actually very lightweight. I obviously think they are exaggerating the incredibly lightweight part, but to be honest it is more light weight than 70% of my foundations so that’s definitely impressive.
Because the texture is so lightweight I expected this foundation to be very easy to blend into the skin. Sadly, that isn’t true. This foundation looks absolutely on the skin, but only if you blend it in very, very well. If you don’t you will end up with some patches and spots. So when using this foundation really beware of that and blend it very well and check it in different locations with different light.
Once everything is blended in properly I think this foundation looks really nice. It definitely has high to full coverage but it doesn’t look cakey or fake at all. It actually looks quite natural, especially after it has been on your face for a while. The longer you wear it, the prettier it will look.
The finish is demi-matte. It does show a bit of a natural glow, but aside from that it’s pretty much completely matte. I do really like the look of that, but it does make it a foundation that’s only great for people with normal, combination or oily skin since it will probably be a bit too dry for those who struggle with dry skin.
The staying power of this foundation is quite nice. It does stay in place all day perfectly. The only thing you should be careful with is with water. It does claim to be water resistant, which is sort of is, but if you drink or brush your teeth right after applying the foundation it can start to look a little funny. I don’t really know what that happens, all I know is you should prevent that from happening.
Overall I think that the Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme is quite a nice foundation. I really like the coverage, I like how lightweight it feels on the skin and I really appreciate its staying power. The only downside to this foundation is the blending part, you really need to make sure you have enough light and you blend it in thoroughly. Aside from that it’s a nice foundation that is definitely worth the try!
The Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme is available at Babassu for €49,50.
That was it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of this foundation. Is it a holy grail or a holy fail?
