I can’t really remember how I found out about this product, but a while ago I came across a picture of the Chanel Le Signe Du Lion Highlighter and I fell in love. It is part of their holiday collection of 2017 but I couldn’t find it at any of my regular beauty stores like Douglas and Ici Paris XL. Therefore I didn’t expect to ever get my hands on it, until I found it at the official Chanel website. I immediately decided to order it and now, a couple weeks later, it’s finally time for me to review this precious product. So, if you’re interested in finding out whether the quality of this highlighter is as precious as the design of it, make sure you continue reading!
First things first, packaging. Like most Chanel powder products this comes in a rounded square-shaped box. I really like the look of the compact because it’s simple yet classy and I like the way it feels. It does feel very well made. Normally the lids of these compacts are black, but since this is part of the holiday collection called ‘numéros rouge’ this comes with a red lid. I really like this colour because it has a bit of elegance to it and something luxurious and I just like the look of that on a compact. Especially when it actually is a luxurious and elegant product.
On the inside of the compact you’ll find a big mirror which is about the size of the lid. On the bottom part of the compact you will find a round pan with the product itself. On top of the power is a little plastic protector and a little brush. It’s the same brush as the one that comes with other Chanel powders and I’m really glad it is because that brush is incredible. I know that normally these free brushes are just horrific, but trust me you guys, these Chanel brushes are amazing. I’ve been using them non-stop lately!
Chanel Le Signe Du Lion Illuminating Powder – €65
The Chanel Le Signe Du Lion Illuminating Powder comes in two shades: Or Blanc and Or Rose. I do like both shades, but I prefer more rosy/champagne colours when it comes to highlighters which is why I ended up going for the shade ‘Or Rose’. This is a gorgeous champagne colour with a hint of pink to it. It’s not overly pink in a way it will end up looking like you have a rash on your face, which is a huge plus, and I also think that it’s a shade that is going to look absolutely stunning on all skin tones. It’s just a very versatile highlighting colour and I’m absolutely in love with it. It is just stunning!
What’s even more stunning is the lion design on the powder. Of course this design will fade once you start using this powder, that’s a logical thing to happen and I don’t blame Chanel for that, but when this design is still intact I think it looks really pretty. I don’t know why but to me this lion head shows elegance and, again, luxury. It also shows power and strength and I just really like that. I like that they went for a lion head instead of a crystal or anything like that. I really like the way it looks while it lasts.
For those of you who are interested in knowing, this pan comes with 9 grams of product. I have to say that I find it hard to state an average when it comes to the amount of product you get in a highlighter because that just varies a lot, but I do think 9 grams is pretty okay. It’s definitely a product that is going to last you for a long time, especially since you don’t need too much of it.
Anyway, it was a bit of a challenge to find the claims regarding this product online since this product is exclusive to the Chanel website and on that site is zero information about this product. I ended up finding more information on the French version of the Chanel site so I ended up translating that and this is what I found: this Chanel Le Signe Du Lion Illuminating Power is a iridescent illuminating powder that illuminates the shadows, highlights the points of your face that catch light. The powder is supposed to feel creamy and velvety thanks to their special formula and the application is supposed to be quick and easy. They also claim that this powder creates a second-skin effect and lastly they let us know that this powder is free of talc and that therefore it creates a satin and transparent finish.
By the way, I found out is that this collection is inspired by the Chanel jewellery collection with the same name. I’m not that into Chanel when it comes to clothes and accessories so I don’t know that collection, but it’s a nice little fact.
Overall I feel like Chanel makes it sound like this highlighter is absolutely incredible. If they are speaking the truth I have pretty high hopes for this formula. It sounds like a very luxurious and rich product that is so easy to work with and will look so, so, so pretty on the skin. Since it’s Chanel I do hope they are telling us the truth and I do think they are, but let’s find out if that’s actually the case or not.
Let’s start off by talking about the texture since that’s one of the most important features of a product like this in my opinion. Chanel said that it’s a talc free powder that it is supposed to feel creamy and velvety. Those are frequently used terms in the beauty industry, however I do think they are quite vague. Or at least, they could mean a lot. However, I do think those words are the best words to describe this product with. This powder really has a very smooth and silky feel to it. It’s so soft, almost like a powdery cream product and it’s not chalky at all. It’s actually the opposite of chalky, which is what makes it such a nice textured product. I really like the way this feels.
Because of that very smooth, silky, creamy and velvety texture this powder is a dream to work with. I know that I say that about a lot of products, but it really is amazing to work with. I find that the texture and how things apply is what makes the difference between luxury or high-end product and more affordable, low-budget items. The powder is so much smoother and it spreads easier and more easily over the skin. It’s not blotchy, it’s not going to look uneven or anything like that.
The best thing of all is that you don’t even have to work hard in order for it to look good. You just pick up some product with the brush that comes with it, or another brush of your liking, you swipe it over the areas you want to highlight, and you’re good to go. You don’t have to go in the powder a million times and go over the same area ten times in order for it to look opaque enough or to just show up, one application is more than enough for a glowing cheek and that’s exactly how I like to see it. Good job Chanel! You did a very good job!
When it comes to pigmentation this highlighter is incredible. This is a terrible picture and therefore it’s hard to tell, but if you look a little more closely than usual you’ll be able to tell that this is a very poppin’ highlighter. It’s quite opaque and therefore you really don’t need much of it to get that blinding glow on your cheeks. If you do want a bit more of a toned down highlight you can definitely get that with this too, but you just have to make sure that you use a lighter hand and don’t swipe the brush through the product too often.
The staying power of this highlight actually impressed me. Highlighters aren’t the most longlasting products. Powders in general aren’t. However, this highlight stays in place all day. One day I applied it in the morning and went to a party at night and it survived it all. It survived the whole day and the whole night without a fail. It didn’t even fade a little bit. If that isn’t impressive to you, I don’t know what is. I think it’s amazing.
Overall I’m just head over heels in love with this highlighter. I mean look at it. Isn’t this the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen in your entire life?! I love the classy packaging, the red lid. I love the gorgeous lion design and I adore the shade of this highlighter. I’m also very much impressed by how amazing the quality it is and how stunning this product looks on the cheeks. It really is everything I was ever looking for in a highlight and more. I love it. If you do have the chance and if you are willing to spend quite a lot of money on a highlighter, I definitely recommend getting this one! It’s stunning!
That’s pretty much it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of this gorgeous Chanel highlighter!
