Like most of you probably know by now, MAC came out with a holiday collection called the Snowball collection and just like in previous years this holiday collection looks absolutely fabulous. This year the collection is filled with lots of fun and festive looking gift bags full of amazing products. I ended up buying three items from the range, including this MAC Snowball Face Bag in the shade Peach. I’ve been using the products for a while now, which means it’s about time for me to review this little set. If you’re interested in finding out what these products are like and if this set is worth spending your money on, make sure you continue reading!
The MAC Snowball Face Bag in Peach comes in this very festive looking packaging. The box it comes in is clear and has a bit of a snowball like design on it, but that’s probably the least exciting part of this product when it comes to the packaging. When you open up the box you’ll find this gorgeous rose gold makeup bag with a lot of sequins on it. It also has a little fluff ball on the zipper which is kind of tacky but also a little bit cute. The bag has a decent size so you can definitely use it for on the go if you want to, but it’s not big enough for all of my everyday makeup. But whether or not that will fit does depend on how much products you use on a daily basis of course.
Anyway, this bag comes with two products. First of all it comes with a tiny yet big brush, a huge fan brush with a short, rose golden handle. The other product that comes in this set is one of the MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finishes. The peach version of this set comes with the Skin Finish in the shade Show Gold, but there’s also a golden version of this bag which comes with another shade.
MAC Snowball Face Bag in Peach – €49,95
Let’s start off by talking about the brush, shall we. This is the MAC 140SES brush. I have to admit that I’d never heard of this brush before I saw this set, but the shape is quite familiar even though I don’t have any brush in my collection similar to this. In short this is a big, fluffy fan brush with a small handle since it’s a travel size brush. The handle of the brush is really pretty, it has a rose gold shimmery colour to it and I love it. Even though the handle is shorter than normal it is really nice to old and it isn’t too short by any means. I also think that because of the fact that it’s short it is very handy to take with you because it just doesn’t take in much space in your makeup bag and I like that they didn’t size down the brush itself. It’s just the handle that is shorter.
The brush itself comes with black hairs and even though I usually prefer white-haired brushes because I feel like those are softer, I really love the way these bristles feel. It’s a very soft and fluffy brush. The hairs aren’t stiff in any way, shape or form and therefore it feels really nice on the skin.
MAC 140SES Full Fan Brush – €48 (original version/size)
Like I said I didn’t have any brushes like this in my collection before buying this set. It’s a big and fluffy fan brush, or like MAC calls it, a full fan brush. I didn’t have one because I never really knew what to do with it. It seemed way too big for highlighter, I figured it could be used for contouring, but overall I couldn’t think of much purposes for it. Now that I have it I have realised that it’s actually great for highlighter because it applies it in a very diffused way. Because this brush is so fluffy but not thick, it applies the highlighter very softly in a nice straight line without harsh edges. It basically is the perfect brush for highlighter and I’m really glad I finally realised that after all those years. I really don’t get why I didn’t realise it sooner, but whatever. I know it now, right?!
According to MAC this brush is made out of a combination of synthetic fibers. All fibers have a different diameter so it will pick up powder effortlessly and apply it just as easily. They also claim that because of the round, full fan-shape glides over the skin for a smooth and soft result in just a second.
Overall it sounds like the perfect highlighter brush, which is exactly what I think it is. I do think that the claims match my description and my experience with this brush pretty well so that’s definitely a good sign.
Overall I’m really impressed by the quality of this brush. I have to admit that I didn’t have incredibly high hopes for it since it is a little brush that comes with another product and usually those aren’t the best brushes in the world. Also because in the past I’ve heard a lot of negative things about MAC’s travel size brushes or their brushes that come in holiday kits like this one.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing this brush is, how well it works and how soft it is. I’m really glad I ended up liking it because otherwise buying this set would’ve been a complete waste because you can also buy the highlighter separately. Anyway, I like it and if you are on the hunt for a great highlighting brush, you might want to check this 140SES Full Fan Brush out! It’s pretty amazing!
Moving on to the second product in the set, this is the MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finish in the shade Show Gold. This is a shade that is in the permanent collection as well, but now it comes in a special holiday packaging and with a different pattern on it. I know that the pattern will fade and that a packaging is just a packaging so it’s not that special, but I do think it’s special. I really like the limited edition packaging and I love the snowflake pattern that is on the powder. I just think it’s really, really pretty.
But before I go into more detail I first want to talk a little bit more about the packaging because I just think that’s the most eye catching thing about this whole product. The compact is pretty basic, like most MAC compacts without a clear middle. But instead of being completely black this compact is completely covered in rose golden or coppery coloured flakes. Shiny flakes. It looks so pretty and I also think it’s such a unique design. I really like the look of it a lot! It is stunning!
MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finish in Show Gold – €31 (original packaging)
Having discussed the packaging in detail, let’s move on to the product itself. The powder. The powder has a snowflake shape on it which looks very pretty and makes the glow stand out even more. But that design will obviously fade, so let’s not talk about the design for too long. The most important thing is the powder itself. That’s what you’re going to put on your face in the end anyways.
So, the powder. The Extra Dimension products from MAC have a different texture or formula than the regular MAC powder products. The thing that makes these Extra Dimension products unique is the fact that they have a creamy, liquid-powder formula that creates a gorgeous prismatic glow. And trust me you guys, that glow is everything you have ever wanted. It’s amazing. I know that the regular MAC Mineralised Skin Finishes are amazing, but these Extra Dimension Skin Finishes are even prettier!
Having said that, let’s talk about the shade. My bag came with the shade Show Gold, but if you were to buy the Gold version of the set you’ll receive the highlighter in the shade Whisper Of Gilt which is absolutely stunning too. I have to say that I didn’t know both shades before I bought this bag so I just decided to go with the Peach version because I prefer peach over gold, but now that I have seen both shades I do think I should’ve gone of Whisper Of Gilt because that one is even prettier than Show Gold in my opinion.
Anyway, Show Gold is a very pretty champagne gold shade. The name suggests that this is going to be a very golden highlighter, but in fact it’s not that gold at all.Yes it does have a golden sheen to it and golden glitters, but overall it’s more of a warm champagne colour with a hint of gold. I’m really glad that it turned out to be like that because I don’t like full on gold highlighters, but that’s obviously just personal preference.
Show Gold is a colour that I think is very pretty and it does look pretty decent on my skin tone, however I do think it will look prettier on somewhat deeper skin tones. It’s not ugly on my pale skin, but I just think that it would look better on others is what I’m trying to say here.
Pigmentation wise this highlighter is pretty amazing, but not as amazing as I initially expected. Usually MAC highlighters are popping, especially these Extra Dimension ones, but I have seen more opaque and more blinding highlighters in my life, for sure. This isn’t the most mind-blowing swatch I have ever made. Of course there’s nothing wrong with a more settle glow, I actually prefer my highlighter to be a little toned down, but it is something to keep in mind before buying this highlighter. If you do want it to be very blinding you will have to work for it a little harder than with some other highlighters, but you can definitely get there.
The texture of the product is really nice as well. It’s a very soft and smooth powder, very silky. It’s not chalky at all and it is also very easy to apply, it really glides onto the skin. Especially in combination with the amazing 140SES Full Fan Brush I think this highlighter looks gorgeous on the skin.
The staying power is pretty decent. It’s not a mind-blowing product when it comes to that, but it does stay in place for a decent amount of time. It will fade throughout the day, especially if you touch your face a lot, but it’s not a product that is gone within the hour if you know what I mean.
Overall I think that the MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finish in Show Gold is a very pretty highlighter. It looks very pretty, packaging wise and when it comes to the snowflake design on the powder itself, and it’s a very pretty shade of highlighter too. I really like how the texture feels and how easy the product goes on to the skin and I definitely think it’s a nice, quality product. I really like having it!
In general I think that the MAC Snowball Face Bag is quite a nice bag, but not the most special thing in the world because you can get these products separately as well. I do have to say that it’s a great value set because separately you would have to spend a lot more money, and I just love the limited edition packagings which definitely make this set worth getting for me. Quality wise these products are just amazing and overall it’s just a nice bag with some nice products, but it’s not the most wow-ing set in the world.
That was it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of this MAC Snowball Face Bag in Peach and also let me know if you got anything from the MAC Snowball collection!
