My First Ever Chanel Nail Polish: Chanel Le Vernis in 491 Rose Confidentiel

03/12/2017

I honestly never thought I’d be crazy enough to spend 25 Euro’s on a nail polish, especially since I’m not really that into nail polish at the moment, but surprisingly enough I actually was crazy enough to do so. Normally when I get expensive things like this I would get them when there’s some kind of discount going on but this time I actually bought it as an order filler so I didn’t have to pay 10 Euro’s for shipping. But alright, it happened and today I’m going to spend at least 800 words talking about it. So, if you’re interested in reading all of those words, make sure you continue reading!

First things first, the packaging. Everyone knows that Chanel has these gorgeous, classic packagings. They have been like this for years and I like that. It’s timeless and authentic. The nail polish comes in a glass bottle with ‘Chanel’ printed on the front and the name of the product’ Le Vernis’. Aside from that it says nothing at all. The lid is square shaped just like the bottle and has the Chanel logo on top. But that square shaped lid actually isn’t the part with the brush on it. When you take it off you’ll find the actual lid which is black as well and when you twist that off you’ll actually get to the nail polish itself. Overall I just really love the look of this packaging. Like I said it’s authentic and classic and that’s totally my style!

Moving on. Chanel obviously has a ton of nail polishes in their range. The colour I went for is called 491 Rose Confidentiel. On the Chanel website it says that this colour is new to their range, but ‘new’ is quite a relative thing in this beauty industry so yeah. That doesn’t really mean a lot for me.

Chanel Le Vernis in 491 Rose Confidentiel – €25

The shade 491 Rose Confidentiel is a very pretty everyday nail polish colour. I have to say that I like my pinks when it comes to the nails, but I’m not that into the very bright pinks, or any bright nail polish colours at all, anymore. I have left that era of my life behind me. Therefore this shade of pink is absolutely perfect for me. Like the name already suggests it is a bit of a rosy colour, that’s definitely true, but it also has a bit of a dusty pink feel to it. In short I’d describe this colour as an ‘old pink’ shade. In my opinion it’s a very pretty colour, a very sophisticated one at that, and I’m really into the sophisticated look so this shade is totally up my alley.

For me 491 Rose Confidentiel is definitely a colour that is okay to wear at any occasion and perfect for every look. I’m not someone who matches her nail colour with her outfit or look, but I do feel like this is a very versatile colour because it’s not that bright or overpowering. It really compliments other colours and that’s a very good thing if you’re going to combine this with other looks and colours. Aside from that the fact that this isn’t too bright or overpowering also means that it’s not too extreme for serious occasions like work or work events.

Having said that, let’s move onto the claims and the quality of this nail polish shall we. I do think that a 25 Euro nail polish has to be exceptionally amazing. I mean, there are lots of nail polishes on the market for 10 Euro’s or less which are the bomb diggity, so something this expensive shouldn’t just be pretty. The least it has to do is stay in place for a long time, be nice and opaque and have a gorgeous glossy finish. Aside from that it just has to wow me. But before I’m going to reveal whether it does that or not, I’ll first talk you through the claims Chanel has made regarding their Le Vernis nail polish.

According to Chanel their Le Vernis is a shiny, high-coverage nail polish that remains gentle on the nails. It comes with a thin brush for precise application. They also claim that the ergonomic cap is made for easy use and that the nail polish comes in a no-spill bottle, even when turned on its side!

Overall it doesn’t sound too extreme or crazy, but these are very reasonable claims. I don’t think a nail polish can be a lot more than that, can it?

When it comes to the high-coverage claim I think Chanel isn’t lying. I did end up applying two coats of this nail polish, however, after one coat the polish already looked pretty opaque. I just like to go that extra mile. Anyway, as you can tell this colour is full on opaque and I love the way it looks. It looks very full if that makes any sense, I don’t know how else to describe it. The nail polish also has a really pretty glossy finish like Chanel already told us it would have. I’m a huge fan of that glossy finish because I think it really adds the finishing touch to the already gorgeous nail-look. I’m a big fan of what this polish looks like on my nails.

The longevity of this nail polish has impressed me very, very much. I have very weak nails and I’m as clumsy as can be so nail polish usually doesn’t stay in place too well on my nails. However, this polish stayed in place for exactly a week. I had to take it off after a week because of work, but let me tell you, even after wearing it for a full week you still couldn’t tell that it had been there for such a long time already. It still looked like you just applied is, so I’m pretty sure this will stay in place for much longer than just a week. Sadly I can’t test that for you guys because of my job.

I almost forgot to talk about the brush, which is quite unique. Nowadays most nail polishes come with those short but thick brushes that almost cover the nail in one go. So when I first looked at the brush that comes with this nail polish I was quite surprised to find out that this comes with a very thin and quite long brush instead. At first I didn’t know if I was going to like it or not, but it turns out to work really, really easily and very precisely. I like it!

Overall I’m a huge fan of this nail polish. I absolutely adore the colour, the bottle is really pretty, the brush is easy to work with and it stays in place forever. I also really love the finish of it. I have to admit that this isn’t a million times better than an Essie polish or whatever, but I do prefer this over all of my other nail polishes. The quality is a little better, especially when it comes to staying power. Overall I’m just really glad that I decided to get this and if you ever feel like splurging on nail polish, Chanel is the way to go!

And that’s about it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of this colour and if you’ve ever tried a Chanel nail polish!
