The LF Beauty Box of July was quite a disappointing one, but one of the products that came inside that box that I did like is this Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream. I’ve always wanted to try something from Moroccanoil so I was happy to finally get the chance to do so. After trying it out for a while it’s time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out whether this Styling Cream does what it claims and whether I like the first Moroccanoil product I have ever tried or not, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off by discussing the packaging. Like all Moroccanoil products this product comes in a bright blue packaging. It’s a tube with a white lid, but since this is a smaller size I’m not sure if the actual product you buy in store has a similar packaging. That might come in a pump. Anyway, the tube is decorated with the Moroccanoil logo and a lot of text that gives us more information about the product.
Overall I’m quite a fan of this packaging. I think it looks really pretty and classy and I like the classic Moroccanoil blue colour. It has something unique to it and the bright colour obviously makes the product stand out which is a great thing as well. The tube contains 75 ml of product which is a decent amount, especially since I don’t use that product in my hair on a daily basis.

On the back Moroccanoil tells us what this product is supposed to do. They say that it’s a leave in styling formula that helps eliminate frizz, adds definition and shine, while the pure argan oil conditions and hydrates the hair. It’s a versatile product that helps hair conform to styling. You have to apply a small amount to damp hair and after that your hair is ready to be styled.
To be honest I think it’s kind of vague what the actual purpose of this product is. I mean I get that it eliminates frizz and stuff, but conditioner does the same thing, so how is this different from a regular or a leave in conditioner. That’s pretty much what I’ve been asking myself this entire time.
Aside from that I quickly want to mention that this product contains a lot of silicones, which usually is a hair ingredient I like to stay away from since it weighs my hair down enormously and it makes it look very greasy. But for the sake of this review I did end up trying it a couple of times, while usually I wouldn’t go for a product that contains (this much) silicones.
I was quite hesitant to start using this product but it actually turned out to be better than I expected. I put a bit of it in the ends of my hair after taking a shower – when my hair was still wet – massaged it in, brushed my hair and went to bed like I usually do after I take a shower. The brushing went a lot easier than it normally does, my hair was way more smooth and way more easy to handle. After brushing it I could really feel the silicones sitting on my hair and that’s definitely not my favourite feeling in the world, but that’s obviously just a personal preference thing.
Surprisingly my hair wasn’t extremely greasy when I woke up. It was actually pretty okay. It was a little more normal than it usually is. Normally when I wake up my hair is looking crazy but when I use this it’s a little more tamed. That makes the styling process a lot easier and also a lot quicker. I don’t have to normalise it before I can do something to it and that really helps.
I also feel like it didn’t weigh my hair down as much as I initially expected. The formula is pretty thin and almost looks like a gel-based moisturiser. It smells pretty okay, but it’s not my favourite scent in the world. I feel like that, because of this lightweight texture, the product isn’t too heavy and therefore pretty okay even for people with hair that tends to get greasy really quickly or thin hair that weighs down easily.
End of story my hair hasn’t become greasy thanks to this. Not even once. It actually makes my hair feel incredibly soft and smooth and it does make it easier to style it. However, if you’re going to curl your hair I don’t know if this is the product to opt for because it does make your hair really smooth and if you have straight hair like me that’s not what you want if you want your curls to stay in place.
Overall I’m pretty surprised by this product in a positive way. I didn’t expect to like it but I actually do. I like that it makes my hair more easy to comb through and I like that it makes it very soft without weighing it down. I also really like that it doesn’t make my hair look and feel greasy and that it makes my hair styling process in the morning a lot more easy and quick. Overall this is a great product, even for people with thin or greasy hair!
And that’s pretty much it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know if you have ever tried a product from Moroccanoil and if so, be sure to let me know how you like it!
XOXO, Nicole.
