Back in Warsaw I purchased something that I never really expected to actually purchase, the Too Face Love Light Highlighter. Don’t get me wrong, I love highlighter and I love Too Faced, but for some reason highlighter just isn’t my favourite product to actually spend money on. But I did it and I’m glad I did. Because I was so excited about finally trying out a new highlighter I did it as soon as I took pictures of it and today it’s time for me to review it. If you’re interested in finding out more about this gorgeous and adorable looking product, I highly recommend you continue reading this post!
Let’s start off with packaging since this bad boy does come in an awfully adorable packaging, doesn’t it? The Too Faced Love Light Highlighter comes in a black box with a heart on the front. Once you open it up you’ll find a heart-shaped packaging in a shiny golden colour. It does feel slightly plasticy and I do think that it looks a little childish and maybe even a bit cheap, but on the other hand I do kind of like the packaging. I’m just not sure what I think of it. I like that it’s a heart and that it’s different, but I’m just not sure whether it’s over the top or just very cute.
Anyway, the Too Faced Love Light Highlighter comes in a couple of shades. Three to be exact. One is called Ray Of Light, which is a bit of a bronzy pinkish shade. The other one is called You Light Up My Life which is a golden highlight. And the last one, which is the one that I ended up buying, is called Blinded By The Light, which is a lot lighter than the other two and a bit of a cool-toned but also champagne coloured highlight.

It was very hard for me to capture the colour as true to what it looks like in real life, but I tried my best. The picture really shows the cool-toned and icy side of the highlighter. It makes it look as if it’s a bit of a silvery almost white product. In real life it’s not like that at all. It’s definitely a lot warmer than it seems on the picture and it’s not as pink as it comes across. I personally really don’t like pink highlighters that much, so I’d never spend that much money on something like that.
Anyway, the highlighter has a really nice shape to it. It comes up quite high and has this prismatic design going on that reflects the light in a really pretty way. In the middle it says ‘TF’ which are the initials of Too Faced (surprise, surprise). I think this shape does add something to the look of the product. First of all because it shows how pretty this highlighter looks when the light hits it, and second of all because you do get a lot more product than you would have gotten if it were flat.
Moving on to the claims. According to Too Faced the co-founder of Too Faced was inspired to capture that ethereal glow that occurs only when a women is in love when he was creating this highlighter. He went to Italy to discover an exclusive liquid-to-powder formula that enables the light reflecting pigments to float in the powder. Unlike traditional pressed powders that crush the pearls during the pressing process, their innovative technology keeps the pearls spherical so they’re able to reflect from every angle.
They also say that it’s supposed to instantly brighten the face, that it has gorgeous colour pay off with a pearl radiant finish and that the universal shades create a flattering glow, an incandescent glow with a mesmerising metallic shine.
Too Faced definitely knows how to make this product sound absolutely incredible, but it also sounds a little too good to be true.
I have to say that in the packaging the product does look very gorgeous. It really looks like it reflects the light perfectly from every angle and that’s basically why I was so interested in trying this product. Knowing Too Faced I did expect this highlighter to be pretty intense and I also expected it to have an amazing-feeling texture. I know that I’m setting the bar pretty high for Too Faced here, but Too Faced is a brand that has proved itself a million times, they have been around for ages and their products are from a higher price-range which means they should be pretty amazing.
When it comes to the texture part I was definitely right. This powder has an incredibly smooth feeling texture. It’s not as dry as some powders can be and I like that. I do have to say that I have felt more creamy products, but that doesn’t mean that this texture is bad in any way.
Because of the smooth texture this product is really easy to apply. It glides on really easily and what I like is that it spreads very evenly. With a lot of highlighters I struggle with the application because where you put the brush down first is where you’re going to have the highest concentration of product. With this highlighter that isn’t so much the case. It spreads out way better and I like that a lot.
When I first swatched this highlighter I was really impressed. I mean just look at it, this looks gorgeous. It looked super intense, the glow is absolutely stunning and there really isn’t anything bad to say about it. After seeing the swatch I was extremely excited to put it on my face and see how pretty the glow would look on there. Sadly it turned out what less intense than I expected. Compared to the swatch it was very, very minimal. Obviously the swatch is going to be more intense since you’re using a finger to create the swatch rather than a brush which is way softer and less dense than a finger is, but I didn’t expect this big of a difference.
After playing around with it a little bit I figured out that if you want it to be more intense the most effective thing to do is use your finger to put some product on the cheek and blend that out with a brush. Another thing you could do to get that more intense glow is apply it with a more dense brush.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m not mad at the fact that this highlighter isn’t as intense as I thought it would be if you apply it in the traditional way, but I did want to mention it. Considering the fact that Jerrod wanted to create the glow a women gets when she’s in love I do think the fact that it isn’t as intense is very fitting.
The staying power of powder products like highlighter, bronzer and blush usually isn’t that amazing. That because if you touch your face it’s one of the first things you’ll touch and therefore one of the first things that will fade throughout the day. This product however does a great job at staying in place, even if you do touch your skin throughout the day. It doesn’t lose its intensity and it doesn’t fade at all. I think that’s a big, big plus.
The last thing I want to talk to you about is whether this highlighter is really that different from ‘regular’ or ‘traditional’ highlighters. Too Faced claims that they used a unique technology to get the perfect glow and that should mean that it looks different. I have to say that I don’t see that much difference in it compared to my other favourite highlighters when it comes to the glow. The main difference I’ve noticed between this highlighters and some of my other highlighters is that this one is less powdery and not as glittery. The shine is part of the powder instead of mixed with the powder and that creates a really pretty look.
Overall I’m a big fan of this Too Faced Love Light Highlighter. I love the shade, it looks really good on my pale skin tone but I think it would look good on any other skin tone as well. I also really love the texture of the powder, it’s very smooth and soft and in addition to that I’m a big fan of the way this highlighter looks on the cheeks. It creates a gorgeous glow that can be very subtle but also more intense and it stays in place all day. It’s amazing!
And that’s it for today. Thank you so much for reading today’s post and be sure to let me know which highlighter is your current favourite and if you’ve tried any of these Love Light highlighters by Too Faced!
