Too Faced Christmas Collection 2017 Best Year Ever Eyeshadow Set

29/12/2017

It has already been quite some time since I bought this set, but it took forever to arrive. I’m talking about the Too Faced Best Year Ever Makeup Set from their holiday collection of 2017. I’ve always loved the Too Faced holiday collections but because Too Faced isn’t available in the Netherlands (however, I believe it’s coming to Douglas) it has always been a little too difficult to get my hands on. This year however I did manage to score a gorgeous value set and that’s the set I’ll be reviewing today. If you’re interested in finding what I think of this holiday makeup set, if I think it was worth the wait and the price tag, make sure you continue reading!

Let’s start off by talking about the design of the set and what you get. The set comes in an adorable cardboard box. It’s decorated with all things Christmassy and I absolutely love the way that looks. When you open it up you’ll find the actual set. All of the products come inside this really pretty golden makeup bag. It’s quite spacious and definitely big enough to carry all of my daily makeup products in, so that’s a big plus.

When you open up the makeup bag you’ll find the makeup products that come in this set. First of all you get a deluxe sample of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. It’s their most popular, best selling mascara which is why they always include it in every set they do. I’m not the biggest fan of that mascara, I don’t hate it but it’s just not that amazing in my opinion, but it’s always nice to have an extra mascara.

Aside from the mascara you also get three little makeup palettes in this set. All three have a different theme and they all come with 6 shadows, a blush, bronzer or a highlighter. Design-wise I think the palettes look absolutely adorable and just really pretty.

Too Faced Holiday Collection 2017 The Best Year Ever Set – €44,95

Having discussed the packaging and the inside of the set, let’s start talking about the eyeshadow palettes. Starting off with the pink palette which is called ‘I Believe In Pink’. This set has a pink theme which means that all shadows are quite rosy and pretty warm toned. I have to say that this is my least favourite palette of the three. Partially because I’m not that into rosy eyeshadows at the moment, but also because it’s just not really a palette filled with colours I would use together, which means that the chances of me using this palette on its own are very low and therefore I just don’t gravitate towards it that often.

It also comes with a hot pink blush which I think looks really, really pretty. The blush might look a little scary at first, but trust me when I tell you it’s not. You just have to make sure that you don’t apply it with a really dense brush and that you do use a light hand while applying it. If you follow those two simple rules, you’ll be totally fine.

But even though I don’t gravitate towards this palette too often, I do like some of the colours that come inside and I do like the quality of the products as well. I do really appreciate Snowgirl and Spoiled Rotten. Even though both of them aren’t the most unique or special shades in the whole wide world, I do think they’re very pretty and to me they do have something special to them which makes me want to use them. I also really love the shade Wish For It. It’s such a gorgeously composed shade and everything about it seems perfect to me. It’s not the most natural colour ever, but it is a shade you can combine with a rather neutral look to make it look a little more unique than it already does and a little more colourful. I really like doing that, especially during the holiday season!

But enough about the shades, we will ramble on about that later. Let’s first talk about the quality. My past experiences with Too Faced have always been very pleasant. Their textures are really nice and all of their eyeshadows are usually very pigmented. This palette really isn’t an exception to that. The shadows are all very pigmented but the textures are really nice as well. These shadows have such a smooth and soft texture which makes them feel very rich and luxurious and I love that about an eyeshadow!

Moving on to the swatches! As you can tell from the swatches these shadows are all (ERIWERIJWER_

Snowgirl – Snowgirl is a very pretty yellow toned matte highlighting shade. I don’t know why but when it comes to highlighting shades I really prefer yellow toned ones over pinky ones, which is why I like Snowgirl so much.

Mink Pink – Mink Pink is another matte highlighting shade but it’s more on the pinky side of the spectrum. Since this is a pinky toned palette it seems like a rather obvious choice to go for a pinky toned matte highlighter, but like I just said I prefer more yellow toned ones. However, if you are going for a pinky look, Mink Pink would be perfect to use as an highlighting shade.

Pink Rink – Next up is Pink Rink. This is a shimmery rose golden shade. It’s a very unique shade and I have to say that I haven’t seen a shade like this too often in my life. I really like it! It looks great as an all over lid shade!

Pink Christmas – Pink Christmas is a very pretty pinky colour that works really well as a transition colour. It isn’t completely matte but it does work really well either way.

Spoiled Rotten – Spoiled Rotten is my favourite transition shade in this palette. It’s more of a taupy colour and therefore a bit more up my alley.

Wish For It – The last shadow in this palette is called Wish For It. This is a gorgeous shimmery purple with a unique kind of shimmery to it. I love using this in my outer corner to spice up my natural looks!

Pink Poinsettia – The blush in this palette is called Pink Poinsettia. It’s a very bright and scary looking colour, but if you apply it with a light hand I do think it looks very pretty on the cheeks. However, I don’t really get why they went for such a bright blush shade since the rest of this set is so natural, but well, nothing we can do about that now.

Moving on to the second palette. Along with the third one which you’ll see in a second, this is my favourite. It’s called the Natural Beauty palette and it is filled with six chocolaty shades. I think it’s a gorgeous palette to use on a daily basis and it’s perfect for creating every natural look you could ever think of. Even though it does seem to be a rather warm toned palette it also has a couple of cool toned shades in it, so there really is something for everyone inside this palette.

Aside from six eyeshadows this palette also comes with a gorgeous bronzer. You get quite a lot of product in my opinion and I definitely think that that’s a good thing. The bronzing shade is really nice, it’s a rather warm toned but not too warm shade of brown with a little tiny bit of sparkle to it. I know that most of us like their bronzers to be matte, but trust me, the shimmer in this bronzer is not going to make you look all funky. It’s very settle and will barely show up once applied, so don’t worry about that!

Like I said when I was talking about the pink palette, Too Faced always have these nice textures in their shadows. They really keep amazing me with that. It’s such a unique texture, it’s so creamy and rich. Because of that these shadows apply very easily. There’s no going over the same area multiple times, within one sweep across the lid you have enough shadow there. This makes these shadows very quick to work with as well as very pleasant to work with. I mean who has the time and the energy to re-apply a shadow a million times in order for it to show up?

Another thing I really like about these three palettes is the fact that every shade has such a cute name. I always knew that Too Faced rocked at things like packaging and naming their products, but they really outdid theirselves with this palette. I mean Sleight My Name, Oh, Deer! How cute is that?! I know it doesn’t have anything to do with the quality whatsoever, but I do really like that about these palettes.

Moving on to the swatches

Angelic – Starting off with Angelic, which is a matte highlighting shade. It’s rather basic but very essential in an eyeshadow palette so I like that it’s there.

5 Golden Rings – 5 Golden Rings is one of my favourite shades in this palette. It’s a very pretty light golden colour which is perfect for brightening up the look by applying it to the centre of the lid, but it could also look gorgeous all over the lid. I really like this shade!

Oh, Deer! – Oh, Deer! is the transition shade of the palette. It actually looks quite similar to the bronzer that’s in this palette as well, but it is a little different because it’s matte and a little lighter. I have to say that it is lighter than the transition shades I normally use, but I still really like it.

Pretty Pecan – Moving on to Pretty Pecan which is one of my favourite shades in this entire set. It’s a warm shimmery brown colour that I love using in my crease, but if I’m really going all out it could also be applied all over the lid!

Sleigh My Name – Sleigh My Name is another one of my favourites shades in this palette. It’s more cool toned than Pretty Pecan but it’s also very nice and shimmery. I usually use this all over the lid!

BAEthoven – Lastly in the shadow department we have BAEthoven. This is a deep matte brown shade that I usually use to darken up my crease with, but works perfectly as an eyeliner as well.

Warm My Heart – Then we have the bronzer. I have to say that it’s not a great shade for my skin tone, especially since it’s quite pigmented, but on somewhat deeper skin tones I think this could look really good!

Moving on to the last palette of the three, the Super Fun Night palette. This palette reminds me of new years and that’s probably because it’s aimed at new years’ parties. The packaging looks really cute, just like the packaging on the other two palettes. The lid of the palette is black and has a bottle of champagne on it as well as some champagne glasses, bubbles and stars. I really like the look of it. In combination with the gold bottom part of the palette I think it’s just a really pretty design.

The overall look of this palette is very pretty in my opinion. If I look at the shades that come in this palette I could say that this is probably my favourite or second favourite palette out of the three. And I based that on the fact that most of the shades in this palette are right up my alley. The shades are natural, have a rather cool undertone and they look like they will go perfect together.

This is also the palette that comes with the highlighter. I did have pretty high hopes for the highlighter because this is a Too Faced product and in the past Too Faced highlighters have wowed me, but spoiler alert: I’m not that impressed by this particular highlight!

Moving on to the swatches!

Lucky Star – Lucky Star is a shimmery highlighting shade. It’s light enough to highlight the brow bone and it has just the right amount of shimmer to it. It has a bit of a yellowy undertone which I like and I actually think this would look great as a face highlighter as well.

Cozy Cashmere – Cozy Cashmere on the other hand is more of a pink toned matte highlight shade for underneath the brow bone. I do prefer Lucky Star but I think this is really pretty as well.

Tipsy – Tipsy is a very shimmery brown shade. Aside from being just brown and shimmery it also has a bit of a green tint to it. It’s a very unique and very pretty colour.

Oh What Fun – Oh What Fun is a matte medium brown colour. This has a warm undertone which seems a little unlogical to me since most shadows in this palette have a cool undertone, but I do really like it and I use it a lot.

Sleighhh Girl – Moving on to Sleighhh Girl which is my favourite shade out of the six. It’s a very shimmery cool brown shade. I like to use this all over the lid with a bit of Lucky Star in the centre to brighten it up. It’s a really pretty shade.

No Peeking – The last shadow in this palette is No Peeking. This is a matte black colour. I don’t use it a lot but it is amazing for darkening up the outer-v or the lash line.

Dashing Through the Glow – Lastly we have the highlighter in this palette. I don’t like it, let’s just put that out there. It’s a yellowy highlight with very minimal shine. I actually prefer Lucky Star over this!

Overall I think that these three eyeshadow palettes are just very fun. I love all of their packagings. Of course they are young and bright and fun and maybe not that interesting for somewhat older women, but I do really like it. I’m just a sucker for cute and happy designs like these. I also like the idea of three smaller palettes all with a couple of shades, enough to create a couple of fun looks with, rather than one very big palette. I think these palettes are perfect for everyday use and also perfect for on the go.

Quality wise I’m also very impressed by the three palettes. All of the shadows feel very nice, have a nice and creamy texture and the pigmentation is just amazing. I also think that the shadows are really nice to work with. The colour pay-off is great, they apply very evenly and they blend nicely. What more can a girl want?!

Moving on to the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I know that this is one of the most best-selling mascara’s out there, but I do think that that’s also due to the fact that Too Faced really pushes this mascara. With every set you buy, every purchase you always get a mini of this. Literally always. Therefore this isn’t the first time I’m trying this and also not the first time I’m reviewing this, which is why I am going to keep things short. If you do want to read the full review, click here.

In short I am not the biggest fan of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I think it’s a nice mascara, it adds volume and it adds a nice black coat to my lashes, but it’s just not as amazing as Too Faced tries to make it sound. I don’t like using it on its own because it’s not very separating and I don’t think it adds enough volume to justify calling itself ‘Better Than Sex’. Nope, it’s just not for me. I’m sorry.

Overall I’m really happy I decided to buy this set. It was a hustle getting it to my doormat since ordering from the US does take ages and is rather difficult, but I did it and I’m glad I decided to do it. I think it’s a gorgeous set, I love the bag the products come in and I love all three palettes. The quality is just amazing and I’ve been using these shadows so much the past couple of weeks! I can’t go without these three little palettes anymore!

That’s pretty much it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of this holiday set and if you think it is worth the hustle!
