Airport stores are just the most amazing stores ever. They have everything you could ever dream of and they have these amazing airport exclusive sets. Normally I always skip those stores because I don’t want to spend the money I saved for the vacation when I’m not even there yet, but I always end up regretting it which is why this year I did end up buying an airport exclusive palette. It’s the Estée Lauder Travel Exclusive Pure Color Envy New Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette (what a mouth full). It’s filled with 6 gorgeous neutral eyeshadows for everyday wear. After testing it thoroughly it’s time for me to review it. If you’re interested in finding out what this palette is like and if it was worth the money, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off by talking about the packaging. This is my first ever Estée Lauder product, so I wasn’t sure what to expect of it. But my lord, this is gorgeous. The palette comes in one of those suede-like covers – just like the Dior ones – and it feels really luxurious. The palette itself isn’t anything less than luxurious either. The lid is golden and it’s very shiny and the bottom part of the palette has this very elegant dark blue colour. The palette feels quite heavy which also adds to the luxurious feeling and pretty much everything about this packaging is perfect. You can really tell that someone actually spent time on creating it and I appreciate that.
When you open the palette up you’ll find a reasonably big mirror, which is really handy if you bring this palette with you on the go, you’ll find the six eyeshadows and you’ll find two applicators. One of which is a sponge applicator and the other one has actual hairs. They are very small and not really something I’d personally use, but if you don’t have that many brushes they could come in handy.
Estée Lauder New Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette – €45,95 (airport exclusive)
Like I said this palette contains 6 eyeshadows, all of which are very neutral. That’s not a surprise since this palette is actually called ‘New Neutrals’. I know I have many eyeshadow palettes filled with neutral colours, but I don’t have one this compact that literally contains every single type of shadow I need in a look. Most of these compact palettes have most of the shadows I need, but miss one or two and therefore require me to either bring another palette with me or create a look that won’t look as good.
Luckily this palette has everything I need: a matte highlighter, and eyelid shade, a matte medium brown, a darker brown and a very deep brown colour. And in addition to that it also has another eyelid shade which I really appreciate. Of course everyone creates different looks, but with my eyelook-style, this palette is perfect.
Having said that, let’s go over the colours that come inside this palette. But before we do that I first want to mention that I’m a little confused about the names of the colours. I feel like the palette is filled with shades from other palettes and the names and numbers represent the palette and the number of the shade in that palette, but I’m not completely sure about that.
07-1 Untamed Teal – Untamed Teal is just a really pretty matte white shade. It does have a bit of cream to it but not too much. For me this is the perfect colour to highlight the area underneath the brow bone and to highlight the inner corner with. If you’re going for a rather neutral look it could also be great as an all-over lid shade.
01-3 Defiant Nude 3 – Moving on to Defiant Nude 3. This is the matte medium brown shade that is perfect as a transition colour. It’s quite light so it might not work for everybody, but for me it’s absolutely perfect. I really like it!
05-3 Fiery Saffron – Fiery Saffron is the first eyelid shade. It’s a bit of a warm champagne colour. It has a bit of a bronzy tone to it and I really like it. Even though I usually prefer something a little more neutral or cool-toned, I feel like this colour is just perfect for an everyday eye look.
01-4 Defiant Nude 4 – Next up is Defiant Nude 4, the other eyelid shade. This one is more cool toned and a little darker. It might not be an eyelid shade for everybody, but I do like a bit of a darker colour all over the lid. If that’s too extreme for you, you could also use this as a crease colour.
11-5 Captivating Cocoa – Captivating Cocoa is the dark brown colour in the palette. It has a bit of a warm tone mixed into it and a very light shimmer. Even though it has a little shimmer to it, it’s perfect for darkening up the crease because the shimmer isn’t too heavy.
02-5 Ivory Power – Lastly we have Ivory Power. Ivory power is the darkest shade in the palette and it’s the perfect shade for making the look a little more smokey. It’s less warm toned than Captivating Cocoa and it’s completely matte. It’s one of my personal favourites because it really takes the look to a whole new level.
Having discussed that, let’s talk pigmentation. I did expect the shadows to be quite pigmented since these are Estée Lauder eyeshadows and Estée Lauder is quite an amazing brand, but I did not expect them to be this pigmented. My lord they look absolutely gorgeous. Look at that pigmentation. And this is just one swipe of each colour. Isn’t that impressive. It’s pretty much the most pigmented palette I currently own.
Aside from the fact that these shadows are very pigmented, the swatches also show how nice and evenly they apply. The first two colours, the lighter ones, a little less than the other four but still. They are all so evenly and smooth. And it’s exactly the same way on the eyes. They go on so incredibly easily and so smooth. I honestly wouldn’t mind it if these were the only shadows I could ever use.
What’s also important is that they are really easy to blend, but you don’t blend them away. They don’t loose colour or intensity while blending and they won’t completely blend into each other in a way you can’t even tell that you’re wearing different colours. I think that’s something that separates high-quality (and mostly luxury) eyeshadows from lower-quality ones and in my opinion it’s actually a very important aspect. It makes them so much quicker and easier to use.
Throughout the day these shadows stay strong. They don’t budge at all. They won’t crease, they won’t fade. They just stay the way they are. They look absolutely phenomenal.
Yup, this Estée Lauder New Neutrals palette really blew me away. I’m so happy I decided to buy it even though I initially didn’t want to. These are probably the nicest eyeshadows I currently have in my collection and the highest quality eyeshadows I have ever seen. Aside from that they are packaged in this extremely classy packaging which I love as well and the colour selection is just perfect for everyday. I’m in love! This is definitely a palette that is worth the investment if you love neutral eyeshadows!
And that’s basically it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post and be sure to let me know if you’re as in love with this palette as I am!
