A few weeks ago my bestfriend, my mom and I went to Germany again. It was another one of our annual shopping trips to the German drugstores and it was very fun. One of the things I bought on this trip is this limited edition/trend edition Essence Good Vibes Good Memories Baked Blush & Highlighter. At the time this trend edition wasn’t available in The Netherlands yet and I though it looked absolutely stunning, so I decided to take it with me. I’ve been trying it out throughout the past few weeks and therefore I think it’s about time for me to review this product. So, if you’re interested in finding out more about it. Make sure you continue reading this post!
Essence isn’t known for their luxurious or pretty packagings. Or at least, I don’t know them for that. It’s a very affordable brand so it’s obvious that they don’t spend too much of their budget on the packagings, but still. This packaging is a lot more fun than the regular Essence packaging. It’s a very simple clear plastic compact but the design on the lid is what makes it so cute. I can’t really describe what I like about it, but you can see it yourself, it really is adorable right?!
I also like that you can see the product through the lid. This product looks absolutely gorgeous and the colour is stunning as well. I definitely think it adds something to the over all experience that you can see what it looks like through the packaging. It’s such a Spring-proof item!
This whole trend edition will launch halfway through March in The Netherlands, so it should be in stores right now. This was the one product that appealed to me the most, but there are a ton more products in this collection that are worth checking out!
Essence Good Vibes Good Memories Baked Blush & Highlighter – €3,78
So, moving on to the product. This is a baked blush & highlighter. Baked means that they just literally baked the powder and this usually results in a very pretty design and a specific feel to the powder. It has a more dry-touch feel. The pattern it has created in the powder is really pretty as well. I don’t think it looks as pretty on camera as it does in real life, but you do get a proper glimpse of it. It’s pink, flower pink, with a golden glow merged into it.
This product claims to be both a blush and a highlighter. That sounds a bit vague, because generally speaking we have separate products to serve us our highlight and blush duties, but on the other hand I get where they are coming from. Some highlighters are very pink and therefore better off as a blush. Examples are the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Rose and some of the limited edition MAC MSF’s.
On the other hand this is a very shimmery product, which is why it could be seen as a highlighter as well. It definitely adds that type of highlighter-y glow to the cheek bones that we all are longing for. I think that it depends on your skintone what you can use it for. For my pale skin I think I’m better off using this as a blush.
The colour of the highlighter/blush is quite different than I initially expected. It is quite a bit more rosy and dark than I thought. That’s definitely not a bad thing. In fact, I’m actually quite impressed by the fact it is. I think it makes the colour more unique and it makes the quality look better to me.
Looking at the swatch itself I’m impressed as well. The blush looks nicely pigmented and intense. The colour shows up nicely and the shine does too. It really has a unique glow to it. Something you don’t see very often in budget brands like Essence, but this time they nailed it. In every light the glow looks different, but equally beautiful. It’s a gorgeous golden shine in a rosy pink tone.
On the cheeks the powder doesn’t come off as intense, but that might be a good thing. I mean, you don’t want to look like a little barbie-doll do you? You can, not judging, but that’s not the look I’m going for. So when I apply this product I do use a light hand. When I do, the product goes on really smoothy. The formula of the blush is really nice and it’s super easy to blend. It’s definitely a high-quality product and I’m very impressed by that.
All in all I feel like the Essence Good Vibes Good Memories Baked Blush & Highlighter is a phenomenal product. I’m super impressed by how nice the quality of it is. I think it’s a very unique colour, I love how it stays so true to this colour on the skin, and I’m in love with the golden glow in this powder. It’s definitely one of the most unique Essence products I own and I’m so super impressed by it. I love it!
With that being said I think I’ve mentioned everything I wanted to regarding this blush. I’m really in love with it and I’m curious to see what you guys think of it! Do you guys love it too?
