Eco-Friendly Washable Cotton Pads: My Experience

10/04/2019

Recently I’ve been working on making my beauty routine more sustainable and using less wasteful products. An example of that is that I now use a Makeup Cleansing Wipe from Magnitone that removes your makeup with just water and is reusable! Another step I’ve made in my journey to becoming more sustainable is purchasing washable cotton pads. I mean, how wasteful are cotton pads? You use them once and then you throw them out. And it’s not just super wasteful, but also really expensive! Therefore I purchased a couple of washable cotton pads from Lanaluna. They are hand made and look super adorable. If you want to know more about them, make sure you continue reading this post!

These days sustainable beauty products are becoming more and more popular and that’s a very good thing in my opinion. The amount of places where you can buy washable cotton pads is growing quickly. There are big companies who now make them, but also small, local companies. Because I like to support small companies I decided to purchase my washable cotton pads from a webshop called Lanaluna. This is a webshop that sells eco-friendly items from other brands but also handmade items.

Because I’ve read a lot of good things about the handmade washable cotton pads from Lanaluna I decided to purchase those. They were out of stock for a while there because the owner makes them herself and her hand was aching from the big demand, but they are back in stock now. Because I generally use two cotton pads a day and my mom does the laundry once a week, I’ve decided to buy 14 cotton pads.

The washable cotton pads from Lanaluna are available in a lot of different colours. If you want to use them for makeup removal, it might be handy to get some darker coloured ones. If you just use them for things like toner, lighter tones are great as well. I decided to buy a couple baby pink ones, a couple pink ones, a couple purple pads and a few blue ones. All colours are really pretty in real life and work just as well.

Lanaluna Handmade Washable Cotton Pads – €1 each

The washable cotton pads from Lanaluna are made out of two pieces of organic cotton fleece material. This feels super soft and comfortable on the skin. I do feel like there’s a slight difference in softness between the bright pink ones and the other ones, but that’s okay. The fleece will get a little less soft over time.

The cotton pads are a little bigger than I initially expected. They have a diameter of approximately 8 centimeters. This is a bit bigger than a regular cotton pad you buy at the store, but in my opinion this bigger size is only an advantage. This means you have a bigger surface to work with.

The two pieces of organic cotton fleece are sown together on the side of the pad using white thread. They are sown together really well so I don’t see them coming loose after a while. I’ve washed them quite a number of times already and they’re still tightly sown together. No worries on that front!

In terms of using them I’m really happy with my new, sustainable cotton pads. They work just as well, if not better, as normal cotton pads. They are really soft, they don’t soak up any product and they cling on to the dirt you’re trying to remove really well. I feel like the only difference between this pad and a regular cotton pad is the fact that these are reusable and normal ones aren’t.

Oh wait, I know another pro. Sometimes, if you’re like hardcore cleansing your skin using a regular cotton pad, they come apart. Especially if you got those cheap ones. These washable ones don’t do that. You can use them as hardcore as you want and they stay in their original shape.

One thing I do feel like mentioning about these washable cotton pads is that they are really easy to make yourself. I have actually made a ton last weekend with my mom and grandmother. I will share the instructions on how to do that really soon! But if you’re not that creative or don’t have the time, Lanaluna is your girl!

All in all I feel like the washable cotton pad is all about winning. I mean, how amazing is it that you never have to purchase another pack of cotton pads again. And that your cleansing routine now doesn’t include a ton of wasteful products anymore! They are just as soft and effective as regular cotton pads and in the end it saves you tons of money. Go get them!

That will be it for today’s post. Thank you so much for reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of these adorable looking washable, durable cotton pads!

Fijn om te lezen dat ze geen product opslurpen, want dat is de enige reden waarom ik er nog geen gekocht heb! Fijne, doorslaggevende review, dit!
