In my birthday haul I showed you guys I bought another luxury foundation. I don’t know what’s up with me but lately I’ve been digging the high end foundations. This time I bought one by Dior, the Dior Star Studio Makeup foundation. Today it’s time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out whether or not it’s worth the money and whether it’s better than my beloved Chanel foundation, make sure you continue reading!
Packaging wise this product is absolutely incredible. I mean look at it, how can one not love the way this looks. The box itself isn’t totally up my alley but the glass bottle. That is pretty much the definition of classy. If I splurge on a makeup product this is pretty much what I want to see.
Because I have oily skin I usually buy foundations that are mattifying and all of those come in bottles that are made out of matte glass, so I’m excited that I finally have something different in there. It’s classy, the pump is very convenient and it’s just everything I was looking for.
When it comes to shades I always thought that Dior was one of those brands who only made way too dark foundations for my skintone. So when I saw this one, put a bit of it on my hand (I know that’s not the way to go but I was in a splurgy mood so please don’t judge) and thought it wasn’t actually that bad I had to buy it. The shade I bought is number 10 and it’s their lightest shade. I’m not sure if their other foundations come in shades that are just as light, I actually don’t think so, but this one does.
Now that I have worn it a couple of times I do have to say that it’s not a perfect match. It’s quite a yellow toned foundation (and I have a neutral undertone) and it’s just like a tad bit darker than my skintone which doesn’t look too bad, but it does look kind of off, if that makes any sense. So if you’re incredibly pale like me or maybe even paler, this is not going to be a perfect match for you, but if you want to, you can definitely make it work.
The texture of the foundation is incredibly amazing. Like I said I usually only buy matte foundations so this product really opens up a new world for me. Even though this doesn’t do anything for me finish wise I do love the way it applies. It’s quite a thin foundation, but not super thin and it feels like it’s gel-based (I’m not a 100% certain about that though, but it does feel/look that way). Because of that it’s so easy to blend and to work with and it lays beautifully on the skin.
It’s literally the only foundation that actually looks better when you apply it using a brush and I really don’t say that often, I actually have never said that before. It’s just such an easy foundation to work with. You don’t have to worry about it getting blotchy or stripy at all, it’s so smooth that it glides perfectly over the skin without having to worry about it.
– Sorry for that super awkward smile –
Coverage wise I expected not too much from it, but it ended up really surprising me. It’s not a full coverage foundation but it does make my skin look flawless and it adds an airbrushed look to it. It’s just very hard to describe, but hopefully the pictures will clarify what I’m trying to say here. It’s just really pretty in my opinion and I love it!
Finish wise this foundation is not at all what you want when you have oily skin, however I do love it. If your really want something that doesn’t make your skin shine like a diamond you should stay far, far away from this product. However, if you don’t mind or if you have normal to dry skin this could be perfect for you. On my pretty oily skin it will get pretty shiny throughout the day but I personally don’t hate that. In my opinion it makes it look more natural and healthy. Back in the day I wouldn’t even consider buying a dewy foundation, but now that I’ve tried it I actually really like it.
When it comes to lasting power it’s just as incredible as it should be. I mean it’s Dior, I wouldn’t expect anything but the best, especially considering the price tag. This foundation will last all day and best of all it won’t start to look blotchy after a couple of hours. It just stays in place and that’s it! I love it!
I think the message is clear: this Dior foundation is surprisingly amazing. I didn’t even read 1 review about it before I bought it so I went in completely blank and I’m really glad I did. It’s the complete opposite of what I’d usually buy but lord o lord I love this stuff. It’s one of the best foundations out there and I’m really glad I gave it a chance!
The Dior Star Studio Makeup Foundation is available at stores such as Douglas, Ici Paris and Sephora for €50,90.
That’s it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know how you like this foundation!
XOXO, Nicole.
