In last weeks haul I showed you guys I purchased a Dior highlighter. Yup, a Dior highlighter. I’ve been pretty obsessed with Dior lately so it isn’t the most surprising purchase ever, but I’m totally in love with it. I’ve been using it a ton over the past two weeks so today I felt like it was about time to review it! If you’re interested in finding out whether or not it’s worth the splurge, make sure you continue reading!
So, first things first: packaging. When you open up the blue box you’ll find a velvety plastic holder with three things in it: the highlighter, a small kabuki brush and underneath the highlighter you will find the classic velvet bag that comes with pretty much every Dior product.
I really like the way all of this looks. I first of all really enjoy the fact that it comes with an actual brush, quite a big one at that. And what I also like is that the highlighter doesn’t come in one of those blue packagings, but in a silver packaging. I really, really like that. I think the packaging is absolutely gorgeous. It feels really steady and luxury and it looks very luxurious as well. It’s definitely an eye-catcher in my collection.
The highlighter is called the Dior Nude Air Luminizer 001 and it’s available at beauty stores like Douglas, Ici Paris and Sephora for €56,90. That’s quite a large price tag, I know. Because of that large price tag I did have quite high expectations of this product. In my opinion a product with this kind of price should at least meet my expectations, but it would be ideal if it ended up being even better than what I expected.
When I bought this highlighter, the shade 001 was the only shade available. Shade 001 is a very pretty warm champagne colour. On the pictures it appear very pink but when you take a look at the swatch you might get why I think it’s more warm toned than cool toned.
Because it’s Dior, which is a more luxury brand, I expected this product to be glowy, but not as glowy as those highlighters you see on Instagram. I just had this idea that Dior highlighters weren’t that pigmented and weren’t that intense. Yet, in my imagination they would provide a very pretty and natural glow and a rather fancy look of the face.
I have to say that I wasn’t completely right. Yes, it’s not one of those crazy shimmery highlighters, but the glow isn’t super sheer either. The pigmentation is absolutely fine and the glow is quite intense. It definitely shows up on the skin and if you want to you can even build it up in order for it to become as glowy as you want it to be.
Like any other Dior product, the texture of this is just incredible. Dior powders are smooth, silky and super soft. When you swatch their powder products your finger will glide through the pan and it will feel incredible. With this product it wasn’t any different. It’s again one of the smoothest highlighters I’ve ever touched. It’s silkier than silk and soften than cashmere. It’s also very soft, almost a bit creamy. I love it.
The only thing I was slightly concerned about was the top layer of the highlighter. Is this an overspray or not? On this picture I’ve swatches the highlighter inside the U. As you can tell it’s slightly less glowy at that part compared to the rest of the product, but I wouldn’t say it’s an overspray. Inside that part it’s still very glowy and it still provides the same amount of shine as the rest of the highlighter does.
It was incredibly difficult to capture the highlighter on camera. It comes off as very natural and very sheer on the picture, but trust me it isn’t like that at all. Because I know some of you appreciate it if I put in a picture with the product on my face I still decided to put it in this post, but be aware that the highlighter is more intense than it seems.
In real life this highlighter adds a very glowy look to the face. Not in a greasy way, but in a pretty way. It makes you look a little more put together, a bit healthier and it will add that finishing touch to your makeup look. It’s not too overwhelming, which I like, but it does make a big difference.
Overall I think this highlighter is just absolutely stunning. The packaging is really pretty, the colour is gorgeous and the texture is phenomenal. I absolutely love the way it looks on my face and I just really enjoy using it in general. If you’re willing to splurge and you’re on the hunt for a gorgeous highlighter, this is it!
