Back in London I came across this gorgeous Dior Holiday Palette. I had never seen it before, not even around the holiday season, but I instantly fell in love with it when I did see it. I know the holidays have been long gone by now, but this palette really stole my heart. Ever since I’ve got it I’ve been using it non-stop so I think it’s about time for me to start talking about the gorgeous Dior Colour Design Eye Palette. If you’re interested in finding out what it is like and whether or not I love it more than my Dior eyeshadow palette from the normal collection, make sure you continue reading!
First things first, the packaging. Normal Dior products always come in these classic dark blue compacts with a little satchel around them to protect the case from scratching. This packaging however is completely different from that and not necessarily what I would expect from Dior. However, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing.
This palette comes in a rather big black cardboard box with golden details on it. Around the word ‘Dior’ are floating a ton of golden stars creating a very festive look. When you open up the box you’ll find this little pouch looking thing. It’s black, shiny and it has ‘CD’ written in the middle of it. These two letters are decorated with golden glitters. It all looks very festive and luxurious and I really like it.
Even though it’s a lot different from the classic blue compacts, I do really like this packaging. It’s new, different and I like the colour theme they are working with. I also think it is convenient in a way it doesn’t get dirty as quickly. It is a lot bigger in size than the regular packaging but well, I don’t mind that a lot. I’m just a big fan of the look of this packaging. Oh, and by the way, it also comes with a mirror inside. How nice!

Having discussed the packaging thoroughly, let’s start talking about the inside. It had fallen out by the time I took these pictures, but the palette does come with a little tiny brush. I don’t really use these brushes that come with palettes like this because I’m not that intrigued by their quality, but well, it’s nice to have if you don’t have that many brushes just yet.
Anyway, the colour-scheme of this palette does remind me a lot of my other Dior Couture Colours & Effects Eyeshadow Palette. It has a lot of purply tones in it and a nice shiny brown. I really like that palette so when I saw that this palette came with rather similar shades I was happy. Of course part of me thought of not getting this palette because it looked so similar to the one I already have, but since I’m a makeup lover and collector I made sure that thought went away very, very quickly.
Anyway, I think this is the perfect palette for everyday. It comes with light shades, medium shades, dark shades and a funky colour to spice things up. It has pretty much everything you could ever need in an eyeshadow palette in here. Because of that reason I’ve been using it so much lately. No matter where I’m going, I always manage to create an appropriate look using this eyeshadow palette.
As I know from my past experience with Dior eyeshadows these shadows do really have the most amazing texture in the whole wide world. I know I have said that about a lot of products, and I’m probably going to say it about a lot more products in the future, but I really do think that about this palette. That because it has such a unique texture, it’s very different from other eyeshadow-textures I have felt before. These are just incredibly smooth and silky and they are also very weightless. It’s hard to describe what a weightless eyeshadow actually feels like because that is a strange term to use when you’re talking about eyeshadows. But honestly I do think that’s the perfect term to describe the sensation of these eyeshadows on the skin with.
Because of their smooth and silky texture these shadows apply like a dream. They glide over the lid, even if you do have a sticky base underneath. It just glides onto there. When it’s on there it looks very smooth and even and just overall very pretty.
Working with these shadows is just as easy and effortless as applying them. With the term ‘working with these shadows’ I mean blending them and that kind of activities. What I like about these shadows is that they do blend very easily, but they don’t disappear or merge into one big blob of colour. After blending you can still see that you’ve used different shades and you can see the difference between the areas with the different shades, but there are no harsh lines.
Pigmentation wise I just have no bad word to say about these shadows. It might seem as if the fourth colour is very poorly pigmented, but that isn’t the case. And I’m not saying this to defend Dior in any shape or form, I actually mean it when I say that that isn’t the case here. It seems that way because the shade is just very close to the colour of my moms arm (the arm on the swatch is from my mother, she’s my arm-model for swatching). Therefore it doesn’t look as bright as the other shades. Aside from that this is more of a top-coat kind of shade or a sheer highlighting kind of shade, which is why it isn’t the most opaque yet still pigmented colour.
Something I love about these shadows in general is that they have a really pretty finish. Even though some of the shades are matte, they all have this silky finish to them. It isn’t necessarily a glow or whatever, but just this silky look that things made out of silk have. It’s difficult to describe but I hope the picture will show why I’m trying to say here.
In terms of staying power I think Dior has done an amazing job with these shadows. I do always use a base underneath them, but I’m sure that if you don’t these shadows will still stay in place forever. Whenever I’m wearing the shadows from this palette I’m sure that I don’t have to worry about my eye look all day long because no matter what happens, they will stay in place!
I think it’s clear that I’m head over heals with this palette. This, for sure, is my new favourite palette. Maybe even my new holy grail eyeshadow palette. Even though I try really hard to do so, I just can’t stop using this palette. I grab it almost every single day and every single time I do so I’m really pleased with the way my eye look looks. These are just some of the best, high-quality eyeshadows I have tried so far in my life and I highly, highly recommend investing in a Dior eyeshadow palette if you love eyeshadow like I do!
And that’s about everything I have to say about this palette for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post and be sure to let me know what you think of the palette and if you also think it’s even prettier than the regular Dior Eyeshadow Palettes!
