Back when I was placing my first ever order on Colourpop, back on Black Friday, I decided to order one of their Lux Lipsticks. Somehow I did think that they didn’t look super appealing and I didn’t love the look of the shades. But I knew this was going to be the only time in a long while that I was going to be able to buy anything from Colourpop so I didn’t want to miss my chance. After looking up swatches I ended up deciding to buy the Colourpop Lux Lipstick in the shade Lay Over. In today’ post I’m going to review it. So if you’re interested in finding out more about it, make sure you continue reading!
The first thing I noticed about the packaging of the Lux Lipstick from colourpop is that it does look pretty darn cute. And a lot more luxurious than the packagings of the Lippie Stix for example. It’s a nice lipstick shaped tube with a coppery colour. All over the packaging are tiny little stars and it also says Colourpop on it in a really pretty font. The lipstick feels pretty hefty and it closes nicely. Compared to the cheap feeling of the Lippie Stix that I tried, I think that this feels pretty premium. Especially considering the price.
The lipstick comes with 3,5 grams of lipstick. Comparing that to for example my favourites from Chanel and YSL this is pretty normal. It’s average. Since this lipstick isn’t super, super like creamy in a way it uses a lot of product at once, I think this lipstick will last you for quite some time. I think it’s a proper amount of product. Let’s just keep it at that.
All in all I am positive about the look and size of the packaging. It is a lot more premium looking and feeling than the Lippie Stix and I like that. You definitely can’t tell by the looks of the packaging that it costed me just 7 bucks. I’m so impressed by that!
Colourpop Crème Lux Lipstick in Lay Over – $7
Okay, having discussed the packaging in excrusiating detail, let’s move on to the shade. The shade I bought is called Lay Over. It’s always difficult to buy a shade online, especially when there are a million shades available. I have based my decision on the swatches I could find online. Of course that isn’t going to be a completely true representation on what it will look like because of the camera but also because of everyones skin tone and lip colour. This alters the way it looks as well. Having it here I think this shade isn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be. Right off the bat it doesn’t look too bad. Especially on the pictures it looks like another typical nude colour. However, in real life I think it has a little bit too much of a greyish tone to it. It looks a little dead to me. On the other hand it also has a bit of brown to it in an orange way. It’s very difficult to describe but it does look nothing like the way it looks on the little sticker.
I also feel like the way it looks in the tube is very much different from the way it looks when you swatch it or wear it on your lips. In the tube it does look pretty wearable and I wasn’t completely disappointed when I saw it like that. However, when I first swatched it I already realised that this wasn’t going to be for me. It’s much darker and more brown on the swatch. When I put it on my lips I was even more disappointed with the shade choice I had made. I really don’t get how it can look so dark while on the website it looked like a milkshake pink colour.
But well, the fact that I made a poor decision on the shade shouldn’t mean that this lipstick should get a bad review. I mean, the quality of the lipstick doesn’t get worse when the colour doesn’t suit you right? According to Colourpop this Lux Lipstick is a nice and creamy full-colour lipstick that is hydrating and very longlasting.
I have to say that I do totally agree with the full colour pat of the claim. It definitely is a lipstick that has enough colour pay-off. Since I don’t really like this colour on me I don’t like the fact that the colour is this heavy, but if it were to be a colour that matched my skin tone I do think that I would have liked how full coverage it is. It also has a really nice texture. The lipstick I have is from the Crème range within the Lux Lipstick range which means that it’s a creamy lipstick. That it definitely is. It’s super smooth and super comfortable. One thing I do like about it is that it isn’t too thick or heavy. It still is very thin and it doesn’t feel yucky on the lips. I also feel like, because of that, it’s more longlasting.
Speaking about staying power I have to say that I’m not disappointed by how long this lipstick lasts. I haven’t put it too the test very often, I have to admit that. I just don’t like going out wearing a lipstick that looks terrible on me. But for the review I did wear it a couple of times. Also the swatch on my hand was a clear marker of the fact that this lipstick isn’t going anywhere. It soft of stains the lips and therefore, even when the creamy layer has faded, the lipstick will stay in place. That’s another really positive point about this lipstick if you ask me.
All in all I have to say that I think that the Colourpop Crème Lux Lipstick is a pretty dope lipstick. I think that quality-wise it is really amazing. It has the formula down, it stays in place for a very long time and it’s super comfortable to wear. The only thing I don’t like about it is the shade and the fact that the way it looks on the lips is very different from the way it looks in the tube. Because of that I don’t think I’m going to wear this very often and I even think that it might hold me back from buying another shade because it’s so unpredictable. But if you already know what shade is going to look good on you, I definitely think it’s a catch!
With that being said I’m going to end today’s post. Thank you so much for reading today’s post and be sure to let me know what you think of this Colourpop lipstick!
