Ever since I was 12 years old I have wanted to try one of the Clinique Chubby Sticks. I once used one at a friends house and I immediately fell in love with it. For some strange reason I have never gotten around to actually buying a full size Chubby Stick for myself, I’ve always put it off. Until a while ago when I finally ended up buying one. The One I bought is the Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm in the shade Chunky Cherry. I’ve been testing it out for a while now and I think it’s about time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out what this product is like and what it looks like on my lips, make sure you continue reading!
Like all Chubby Sticks and other crayon makeup products, this Chubby Stick comes in the shape of a thick crayon. I actually think that Clinique is the one who started this whole lip crayon trend (correct me if I’m wrong about that tho). The colour of the packaging depends on the colour of the product itself. This is a pinky-red product, so the outside of this tube is pinky-red. The rest of the packaging is silver. I really like this combination. It looks both young and stylish at the same time and it also gives me quite a luxurious feel. The packaging also feels very well-made which adds to that luxury feeling and overall I’m a pretty big fan of it.
Even though this is the first Clinique Chubby Stick I’ve ever owned, it’s not the first lip crayon I’ve ever used. I do have a lot of crayon products from other brands and I have to say I just really enjoy how they work. I think it’s so much easier to apply a lip colour when it’s shaped like a big crayon. It allows me to apply it quicker, easier and prettier. It might just be about personal preference, but I really like it when lip products come in a crayon shape like this one.
Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm – €22
The shade Chunky Cherry is a very unique shade. It’s definitely not a shade I would naturally gravitate towards because usually I do like to keep things nice and neutral, but for some reason this colour really caught my attention. You’d think that this is a fruity red colour, but it’s actually a bit more pink than that. It’s more of a fruity fuchsia colour in my opinion. I really like it. It’s not a very autumnal or wintery kind of colour, but it is a great colour for spring and summer. And since spring is coming up very soon it’s only logical for me to finally review this product.
From what I remember the Clinique Chubby Sticks are more like tinted lip balms than lipsticks, but this one is actually pretty opaque. I expected it to be a rather sheer formula but that was a mistake. However, if you apply it using a light hand you can definitely get a more sheer coverage out of it, but in general this is a more opaque lip colour. So do keep that in mind while deciding which colour you are going to get!
By the way, if Chunky Cherry isn’t your cup of tea, there are a total of seventeen shades available in the Moisturising range, so there’s definitely one shade in there that will be up your alley!
Moving on to the claims of the product. According to Clinique this is a natural-looking lip colour with a settle glow. The Chubby Stick is supposed to be a super-nourishing balm filled with caring ingredients like shea butter and mango butter. It’s exactly what dry and sensitive lips need to feel comfortably soft and supple again.
Like i said, this is quite an opaque product for a moisturising lip colour balm. I didn’t expect it to be this opaque, especially not after reading what Clinique has to say about it. Not that they claim that it’s sheer, but they just market it like a lip balm and lip balms with a tint are never very opaque.
I know that I’m making it sound like this amount of pigment is a bad thing, but I really want to stress that it is not. It’s actually very positive. Because you can definitely build it down by using a lighter hand or just applying less product and creating a more wearable look with it, but if you use it like normal you can also get a great pop of colour on your lips. That’s just amazing, you can get both looks with one product!
The staying power is pretty decent as well. Since this is a creamy and shiny product this isn’t something that is going to last for hours and hours. You can’t expect that from it. However, for what it is I do think it’s pretty long lasting. It might be because of the bright colour that stains your lips a little, but even after 5 hours I’m still able to tell that I have been wearing this lip product that day.
Overall I think that this Chubby Stick is just incredible. It’s just an all in one lip product. It nourishes my lips very, very well. It really takes care of those wintery-lips on mine, while adding a gorgeous pop of colour as well. What more can you want? It’s also incredibly comfortable to wear and it stays in place for hours and hours. I’m head over heels in love with this product and I’m definitely getting some more shades in the near future!
And that’s about it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of this shade and if you have any experience with the Clinique Chubby Sticks!
