Recently, well actually a couple of weeks ago, I bought this Clinique Chubby Lash Mascara Set. I’ve been wanting to try the Chubby Lash mascara by Clinique for a while now, and this set was equally as expensive as the mascara on its own, so I decided to buy the entire set. Like I said it’s actually been a while since I actually got it, which means I’ve been testing it out for a while now. Because of that I’ve been able to form a proper opinion on these products and therefore it’s time to review all of it today. If you’re interested in finding out whether or not the Clinique Chubby Lash mascara is worth the price and whether the two other products are worth the try, make sure you continue reading!
Before we get into anything, let’s first talk about this set. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of these sets where you get a mascara and you get one or two miniature products for free with it. I think they do this because it allows you to try those other products as well which might result in you buying it, but I’m not mad about that. I’m actually really happy they offer these sets because I really like trying out lots of different products.
This particular set comes with the Clinique Chubby Lash Mascara as the star of the set, along with a mini Take The Day Off Makeup Remover and a mini Pep-start Eye Cream, which is a product I’ve been meaning to try for a while now!
Clinique Chubby Lash Set – €21,43
Let’s start off with the eye cream. Like some of you might know, my eye area is extremely sensitive and pretty much every eye cream I’ve ever tried has been extremely irritating to my skin in that area. I wasn’t quite sure whether this one would irritate that area as well, but I was willing to put it to the test. So that’s exactly what I did. I smeared some onto my skin and to my surprise, no irritation occurred. My skin stayed completely calm and it actually just felt really, really nice on my eye area. It was a little cooling, but it also felt really soothing. It was an exceptionally nice experience, especially if you consider the fact that I haven’t been able to use an eye cream without my skin burning like hell in forever.
So the fact that this product doesn’t irritate my eye area, or hasn’t irritated it so far, is a really big plus for me. It’s something literally no eye product has done so far and it’s definitely a reason for me to consider getting the full size of it. Another reason why I consider getting the full size is because I think the product itself is just really nice. It’s a very soft cream, it’s not too rich but not too light and watery either and it really just soothes my eye area. It feels really nice on the skin, especially in the morning, and I just want to have that experience every day.
Clinique Pep-start Eye Cream – €27,14 (full size)
Moving on to the makeup remover. I have heard a lot about this little guy, partially because Clinique sponsored a lot of people to talk about it, but also because lot’s of people are genuinely liking it. I was very excited to give it a try since the full size is quite expensive for a makeup remover. I was curious to see what it was going to be like.
The first thing I found out is that this is one of those slightly oily cleansers, but not in a bad way. It feels like it’s oil based, which is a very effective ingredient when it comes to removing makeup, but it doesn’t feel oily on the skin and it doesn’t leave that greasy residue behind. What it does do is remove my makeup and it does a good job at that. With only one cotton pad and a bit of this product all of my makeup disappears and my skin feels super clean and ready for my night-time moisturiser. I’m really impressed by this product actually and I’d actually consider buying the full size because it’s just really good at what it does!
Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover – €24,88 (full size)
Having discussed the two mini’s, it’s finally time to start talking about the star of the review, the Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara. A mascara that seemed to be right up my alley and everything I was ever looking for. But before we go into more depth about that, let’s first go over the design of the packaging, shall we?
The mascara is quite big and chubby (like the name) and I like that about it. It might not be the most efficient packaging ever when it comes to taking in space, but I do really like it. Aside from the fact that it looks really good I also feel like it hold really nice. It’s steady so if you put it down it won’t fall and because it’s thick it won’t slip out of your hand too easily. Overall I’m quite a big fan of the packaging, especially because of that.

Moving on to one of the most important things when it comes to mascara: the wand. The wand can make or break a mascara. Like the name already suggests, the wand of this mascara is pretty big and chubby. It’s quite spikey and the hairs aren’t actual hair-like hairs, but more silicone/plastic like. Overall the wand has everything I want a mascara wand to have. Despite the fact that I’m a big fan of wands like this I know that lots of people actually prefer smaller mascara wands because they think these big ones are hard to work with or just not easy to use in general, but that’s totally up to personal preference. And from my experience this mascara wand doesn’t cause too much excess smudging. I don’t smudge more with this than I would if I’d be using a smaller or more slim mascara wand.
Because of the type of spikes on the wand, I feel like this mascara does a great job at separating the eye lashes. Instead of clumping them together, they make sure each lash is coated with its own bit of mascara and I like the look of that. I have to say separation isn’t the most important thing for me when it comes to mascara, but in my opinion it’s always a plus when a mascara can separate lashes well.
The main thing I expected this mascara to do is volumize. Most big mascara’s have that purpose so I didn’t think this particular one would be an exception. And I have to say I wasn’t wrong on that part. This mascara is really amazing at volumising the lashes and I absolutely love the look of it. Because it’s also amazing at separating the lashes it doesn’t clump them up in the process, but it does leave you with beautiful long and voluminous lashes. A look I really like to go for on a daily basis.
Another thing I like about this mascara is that it’s very quick. It doesn’t take three coats to get the voluminous look your going for. All you need is one coat and you’re good to go. Of course you can apply one more coat if you really want to, it’s definitely a mascara that layers nicely, but in my opinion that’s not really needed.
One last factor I think is important when it comes to mascara is the smudging and staying power in general. I think that’s what differentiates more expensive mascaras from cheaper ones. The rather expensive kinds usually stay more intense throughout the day and are less likely to smudge. Of course that’s not always the case, but that’s something I did experience throughout the year.
This mascara, luckily, stays in place all day. It literally doesn’t budge. It doesn’t get flakey, it won’t smudge underneath the eyes and it definitely doesn’t loose its intensity throughout the day. Another thing that impressed me about this mascara is that I wore it while walking through a huge storm (including tons of rain) and it didn’t even smudge a little bit. It literally stayed in place perfectly. It that isn’t a sign of a good mascara, I don’t know what is!
Overall the Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara is one of the best, maybe even the best, mascara I have ever tried. It has the perfect wand, it does everything I want it to do and it stays in place like no other. I’m a really, really big fan of it. Aside from that I’m also very impressed by the two mini’s I got. I’m actually considering buying the full sizes because both products are just really nice and they do everything you could want them to do! All together this set is a big hit and I highly recommend checking it out if you’re on the hunt for a new mascara and interested in trying out some new Clinique products!
And that’s basically it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know which mascara is your current favourite!
