It has already been a good couple of months since I bought this product but I’ve just been so busy that I haven’t gotten around to actually reviewing it. I’m sorry for that! However, because I’ve had this for such a long time I have had a long time to test it, so I’m sure I have a better idea of what this lipstick is like now. Anyway, I’m talking about the Clinique Butter Shine Lipstick in the shade 456 Strawberry Ice. I bought this because it was on sale and it sounded like a great and comfortable lipstick, so I was curious to see it it was actually going to be like that. After testing it for a while now I’m finally reviewing it today, so if you’re interested in finding out more about this lipstick, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off by talking about the packaging shall we? The Clinique Butter Shine Lipstick comes in a typical Clinique box. I never really feel like spending time and words on the box that a product comes in, but I have to say that I do really like the box this lipstick comes it. I think it looks very pretty and classy. Anyway, the actual lipstick comes in a silver tube. It has a bit of a unique shape and I don’t really know what to think of that. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. It’s just okay. The shape is a little bulky for my liking, but it’s not huge or anything like that so I’m okay with it.
I’m pretty sure that this Clinique Butter Shine lipstick is available in a ton of shades, but the shade I ended up buying is called 456 Strawberry Ice. I have to admit that the main reason why I bought this shade is because this shade was on sale, but in my defence, I do think it’s a very pretty shade and definitely one I could have gone for it this lipstick wasn’t on sale at all.
Clinique Butter Shine Lipstick – €22
Before I go into more detail about quality I first want to discuss the shade in a little more detail. Strawberry Ice is a very pretty reddish pink colour. It really has a bit of that warm red tone in it without it being too red. It’s a great combination between the two and I do think that strawberry is a great word to describe the shade with. The ‘ice’ part of the name is a reference to the icy finish of the lipstick and the shimmer that is in it. The lipstick has a bit of silver shimmer to it and a rather frosty finish. I’m usually not that big of a fan of icy and frosty finishes and shimmery lipsticks in general so this seems like a terrible colour choice for me, however I did have a feeling I was going to like this shade.
Having said that we can finally move onto the claims. According to Clinique this is the most creamy, richest and smoothest lip colour you can ever imagine. Their revolutionary gel formula offers the shine of a gloss but the comfort of a lipstick. It is supposed to give the lips a dewy, luscious colour and it’s supposed to apply soft as butter and feel luxuriously smooth.
Overall it sounds like a very comfortable and smooth lipstick. The perfect lipstick for anyone who doesn’t like the feeling of lipgloss but does like the shine. I’m curious to see whether all of that is true or not!
Let’s start off by talking about the texture shall we? I think the texture is what is supposed to set this lipstick apart from other lipsticks. Clinique calls this a butter lipstick which makes it sound like it’s not going to be the most lightweight lipstick in the world, but it is going to feel very smooth, buttery and soft on the lips. And I have to say that that’s the perfect way to describe it. It’s not going to be very lightweight, but it is going to feel very comfortable on the lips. Because of the amazing buttery texture it, indeed, feels very luxurious on the lips and I’m a big fan of that feeling. The texture of this lipstick is just amazing!
Another thing I really like about this lipstick when it comes to texture is the fact that it’s not just buttery and comfortable, but it’s also a bit hydrating. My lips tend to be pretty dry, especially during the colder months. So this hydrating effect comes in really handy for me. It also makes this lipstick a very all-in-one product: you get the texture of a lipstick, the shine of a lipgloss and the hydration of a lip balm. What more can a girl want?!
When it comes to pigmentation I’m not disappointed. It’s not the most full-of-colour lipstick, but it is pretty opaque. It has enough colour pay-off to transform the colour of my lips but it’s not too overwhelming. I’m personally not that into full coverage opaque lip colours. I think that looks a little too extreme on my face. I also like that you can tell that there is shimmer in the colour, but it’s not too overpowering. It’s not a full on shimmer lipstick if that makes any sense.
When I was about to try this lipstick on for the first time I was a little hesitant when it comes to the finish because this is supposed to be a icy/frosty lipstick and that usually really isn’t what I like, but I have to say that I don’t hate the way this looks. I do prefer a more shiny finish rather than an icy finish, but it’s not ugly.
When it comes to staying power I have to say that I’m not disappointed. I expected this lipstick to be quite slippery and not very long lasting, but I have to say this is a pretty solid lipstick. It’s definitely a lipstick that I have to remove myself at some point of the day when I really want to drink but don’t want to cover my bottle with lipstick you know. So that’s definitely a good sign!
Overall I think that the Clinique Butter Shine Lipstick is a great lipstick. It is a very comfortable one, I think that the texture is very unique and I like the way it looks on the lips. Oh and I’m very surprised when it comes to how well this little guy stays in place. I wouldn’t say it’s the most unique lipstick in the entire world, but I’m definitely a fan!
That’s pretty much it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of this lipstick and which lipstick is your current favourite!
