Back when I went a little crazy on the Clinique makeup sets I bought their Pop Sampler set. This is a little set filled with four products from the Clinique Pop range. I have always wanted to try their Lip Pop Lipsticks so this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Anyway, I’ve been testing the lip products for a while now and I feel like it’s about time for me to actually write a review about this little set and let you guys know what I think of it. So that’s what I’ll be doing today. If you’re interested in finding out what these lip products are like and if they’re worth buying individually, make sure you continue reading!
The Clinique Pop Sampler Lip Set comes in an adorable looking tin box. It’s very colourful and pretty and it’s also very handy because you can reuse it for lots of different purposes, you can even use it as your lunch box. Anyway, inside the little box are four products. There are two lipsticks and two liquid lipsticks. All are sample sizes of course, but they aren’t extremely small. I feel like these lipsticks and lip lacquers will last you for quite some time! At least long enough to figure out whether you want to buy the full size or not.
Anyway, like I said this set comes with two of the Clinique Lip Pop Lipsticks. One is in the shade is called Punch Pop and it’s from the Lip Colour + Primer range and the other lipstick is called Rose Pop and is from the Matte Lip Colour + Primer range. It also comes with two lip lacquers. One is from the Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer range and is called Go-Go Pop and the other one is called Cake Pop and is from the Liquid Matte Lip Colour + Primer range.
So overall this set comes with a matte lipstick and a matte lip lacquer and a normal lipstick and lip lacquer. A little bit of everything you might say.
Clinique Lip Pop Sampler Set – €27,50
Let’s start the review off by talking about the lip lacquers shall we? Normally I’m not a lip lacquer or liquid lipstick fan at all. I think they are way too drying, uncomfortable and too high maintenance. However, liquid lipsticks are very popular nowadays so I do believe that there have to be some that are actually incredible, otherwise a product type like this couldn’t be that popular.
So, first things first, the packaging. The Clinique Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer come in these rectangular shaped packagings. These are smaller than the full size ones because they are travel sized, but the full sizes do look pretty much the same. Anyway, they come with a doe foot applicator which is always a positive thing and because everything about it is rather small you do get quite a lot of control from it during the application proces.
Like I mentioned I got two shades out of the range. One is called Go-Go Pop and is more of a bright pink, fuchsia colour and the other one is called Cake Pop, which is more of a nude-y colour. Cake Pop, by the way, is from the matte version of the Lacquer Lip Colours.
Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer – €23 (full size)
So, having said that, let’s go through the claims. Both are from a slightly different range, but the claims don’t differ from each other that much. The main difference in terms of claims is that the matte version claims to be matte and the regular version doesn’t claim that. Having said that, let’s go through the claims.
According to Clinique their Lacquer Lip Colour + Primers are luxe and comfortable. They have a ton of pigment and will hydrate your lips with just one swipe of product. The intense colour pay off will stay in place for up to six hours. They also claim that these products stay nice and comfortable all day long.
Overall it sounds like this is exactly what I’ve been looking for in a liquid lipstick. They are highly pigmented, they stay in place for a very long time and they are comfortable. How great that may sound, I was quite hesitant about it at first. That because I’ve seen a lot of lip lacquers claim such things and so far they never proved me wrong. In my experience all lip lacquers are still the most uncomfortable things ever. Anyway, let’s move on to the swatches and talk about whether or not I was wrong about liquid lipsticks/lip lacquers.
Top swatch: Cake Pop – Bottom Swatch: Go-Go Pop
As you can tell both lip lacquers are intensely pigmented. Clinique already warned us about that and they weren’t lying. I now also get why these are called Lip ‘Pop’. These colours actually really make your lips ‘pop’ and I like that a lot. Especially the brighter shade, Go-Go Pop, really impressed me. But Cake Pop definitely isn’t a disappointment either.
In terms of comfortability I think these are about as comfortable as a lip lacquer can get. They do actually feel pretty hydrating and it doesn’t make me feel like I put hairspray on my lips. I also feel like these lip lacquers don’t leave my lips as dry as other lip lacquers have done so for me that’s a huge, huge plus. There actually isn’t much of a difference between the matte and not-matte version when it comes to comfortability. I do think that the not-matte version is slightly more comfortable, but it’s a very, very minor difference.
The staying power of these two lip lacquers is what impressed me the most. I don’t think that these are completely transfer-proof, but they do stay in place very well. Obviously eating and drinking affects the wearing time/staying power, but generally speaking these do stay in place for up to 5 to 6 hours.
Having discussed all of that I think it’s about time to move on to the lipstick part of this review. These are the two Clinique Lip Pop Lip Colour + Primer. Just like the Lip Lacquers, one of these two is from the matte range of the Lip Pop collection and the other one is from the regular range. The shades of these two lipsticks are very similar to the shades of the two lip lacquers, so if you don’t like the formula of the lacquers, you can get pretty much the same result in terms of colour with these two.
Anyway, let’s talk packaging. These are mini sizes but the packaging is pretty much the same as the packaging of the full sizes. They are rectangular shaped but a bit wider than the lip lacquers. The bottom part of the lipstick-packaging matches the colour of the lipstick itself, which is a very handy detail if you do collect a few of the lipsticks from this range. The lid of the lipstick is silver and has the name of the brand, Clinique, written on it.
Overall I think that these lipsticks look adorable. I like the size of the mini’s and I like the fact that half of the packaging is the same colour as the lipstick itself. That’s just very handy!
Clinique Lip Pop Lip Colour + Primer – €23 (full size)
Before we go into the details, let’s first talk about the claims Clinique has made regarding these two lipsticks. Just like with the lip lacquers, one of them is from the matte range of the Lip Pop Lip Colour + Primers, but the claims don’t seem to differ that much. The main difference is the fact that one of them is matte and the other one isn’t and that the matte ones are supposed to stay in place a little longer, so keep that in mind!
Anyway, according to Clinique their Lip Pop Lip Colour + Primers are intensely pigmented lipsticks with a caring primer in one. The primer is supposed to smoothen the lips, add contour and hydrate, so the lips will stay well-nourished all day long. The lipsticks have a longlasting finish, are as soft as silk and won’t fade. Because of the sheabutter and murumurubutter in this lipstick, the lipstick will keep the moisture balance in balance all day long. All together these lipsticks will create a smooth, fully covered and full lip.
Pigmentation wise these lipsticks are very, very impressive. Both the matte and the normal version are full of colour and I love the look of that. If you’re on the hunt for some highly pigmented lip colours I would definitely recommend checking these out. It has been a long time since I came across lipsticks as full of colour as these two are. I love it!
Okay, enough about that. Let’s talk comfortability. I have to say that on that front I’m impressed. I’d expect these lipsticks to be quite heavy and creamy because they are so rich and full of pigment, but in fact they are very lightweight and incredibly comfortable to wear. After a while you barely even feel that they are there, how nice is that?
Another great thing about them is that they actually keep your lips moisturised throughout the day. They are very nourishing and that’s great, especially when your lips are feeling a little chapped and you need something to recover them, but you do want to wear a bit of colour on your lips. These two lipsticks are amazing for that.
The staying power isn’t a joke either. All day long would be an exaggeration, but because these colours are rather bright they do stain your lips a little, thanks to which you will be able to see a bit of colour all day long.
Overall these Clinique Pop (Lacquer) Lip Colour + Primers have impressed me quite a bit. They are very, very comfortable, they burst of pigment and they stay in place all day long. These really are some of the best and most comfortable lip products that I have tried in a while so I’m very, very excited about them! If you’re on the hunt for some very pigmented lip products, you should definitely check out the Clinique Lip Pop collection!
That was everything for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of the Clinique Lip Pop products and whether or not you have given them a try already!
