I remember that a while back I was saying to myself I wanted my entire skincare collection to be Lush products. Well, I changed my mind about that. A couple of weeks ago I came across the Chanel Hydra Beauty Gel Crème. Some of you might know that I’m a big sucker for Chanel and this proved it. It had a mediocre discount and I immediately bought it. When I was younger I though Chanel moisturisers were like the most luxurious thing in the world and I really wanted to know whether or not this moisturiser would be as amazing as I made them seem in my mind. I’ve been using it twice a day for quite a while now and therefore it seemed like the perfect time for me to review it. So if you’re interested in finding out more about the Chanel Hydra Beauty Gel Crème, make sure you continue reading this post!
First things first, let’s talk packaging. Chanel products always look pretty luxurious. Mainly because of the Chanel logo on the lid, but well, it’s luxurious. The Hydra Beauty Gel Crème from Chanel comes in a white box with a black lining along the bottom of it. When you open it up there’s a little manual in there on how to use it and there’s the product.
The cream itself comes in a jar. The jar is made out of plastic which is a little less luxurious as I expected it to be. However, it still has that black lid with the white Chanel logo on it which makes it look super chic. The bottom part of the jar has a very light blue colour. It has a bit of text on it telling you what this product is and that’s pretty much it. It’s fairly simple but also very chic.
When you open up the jar you’ll find a little piece of plastic protecting the cream. Aside from that you also get a little spatula which you can use to scoop some product out of the jar hygienically. I normally never use these kinds of things but this time I decided I did want to use that spatula. I now store it on top of the piece of plastic so I have it with me at all times.
The jar is filled with 50 grams of product. This is quite a normal amount for a product like this. It’s not an impressive amount of product, but it’s not like you get nothing. A little bit of this moisturiser goes a very long way. However, if you use it twice a day every day I don’t think this jar will last you a very long time.

Having talked about the packaging and all, let’s move on to the product itself. That’s pretty much the most important thing about a moisturiser, right?! Anyway, let’s take a look at the claims.
The essential moisturising step for the comfort of normal skin. HYDRA BEAUTY Gel Crème deeply hydrates and protects the skin against free radicals. Its light, fresh and velvety texture delicately melts away to reveal subtle fruity notes.
Morning and/or evening, apply to clean, dry skin, following application of serum.
Ideal to prepare the face for makeup.
For colder weather, the effectiveness of HYDRA BEAUTY Gel Crème comes in a fresh, rich alternative texture: HYDRA BEAUTY Crème. HYDRA BEAUTY Gel Crème and HYDRA BEAUTY Crème can be used with other skincare products of the line. In synergy with HYDRA BEAUTY Sérum, they offer optimal hydration and a naturally glowing complexion.”
All in all these claims do sound very promising to me. I like that they mention that it’s a great way to prepare your skin for makeup and I like that it doesn’t just hydrate. It also protects the skin from free radicals. But what makes this moisturiser so special is definitely the formula, the texture. This is a gel-crème, meaning that it’s lightweight and fresh on the skin. But unlike most gel-crèmes, this one also has a velvety touch to its texture. It’s not just a claim, it’s true. And that feels really unique.
Gel-crèmes are known for their lightweight formulas and that always makes me think that those kinds of moisturisers don’t have enough moisture to them. They feel like water on the skin and not very effective. I was curious to see what Chanel would do to make it lightweight but moisturising at the same time. I mean, from a brand like Chanel I do think you can expect more than just a basic gel-moisturiser.
I was right about that. I noticed it from the very first time I used this moisturiser. Even though it’s described as a gel it also has a lot of creaminess to it. It feels like a combination of both things. You can feel the moisture in there without it being heavy. This makes it amazing for people with combination to oily skin like me. We also need our moisture, but we just don’t need too much of it. This really is the best of both worlds for me.
Like I said I’ve been using this moisturiser both day and night for a while now. That’s something I normally never do. I also normally never stick to one and the same moisturiser for a very long time. Until now. This Chanel Hydra Beauty Gel Crème is so amazing I just can’t and won’t stop using it. Aside from the formula being super comfortable on the skin it also does a lot for my skin. I feel like it hydrated my skin more than any other moisturiser I’ve ever tried. It doesn’t just moisturise the surface, it goes deeper than that. It adds a lot of smoothness to my skin and it makes me look radiant. Not in an oily, glowy, greasy way, but in a very pretty and natural way.
After using this moisturiser for a couple of weeks I feel like the quality of my skin has improved so much. It’s something I have never experienced before and that makes me super excited. Obviously I still have the occasional hormonal pimple, but my skin has become so much clearer and smoother. Now that I’ve been using it for a longer amount of time I feel like my skin has a lot less texture over all and it’s way more radiant than ever before all day long. I’m really happy with these results!
Even though it’s Chanel and I did have pretty decent expectations of this moisturiser, I’m very impressed by how well it works for me. I really didn’t think a moisturiser could change the quality of your skin in the long run but this product proved me wrong. My skin is so much smoother, more radiant and more moisturised. That in combination with the amazing formula on this moisturiser makes this a huge winner for me. I did expect to like this product, but I didn’t expect to love it the way I do. I’m pretty sure I found my new holy grail moisturiser!
With that being said I’m ending today’s post. Thank you guys so much for reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of Chanel skincare products!
