Chanel Coco Rouge Shine Lipstick in Boy

12/10/2017

Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of having a Chanel lipstick one day. They seemed like the classiest lipsticks out there and it was the only luxury brand I knew back then. Anyway, a while ago that dream became reality since I purchased one. To be completely honest this actually isn’t my first Chanel lipstick, I also have one of the Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks, but because I don’t wear that too often this feels like my first real Chanel lipstick. Anyway, I bought one of the Chanel Coco Rouge Shine lipsticks in the shade Boy and today I’m going to review it for you guys. If you’re interested in finding out more about this gorgeous lipstick, make sure you continue reading!

Let’s start this review off by talking about the packaging. Like any other Chanel product this lipstick comes in one of those classy black boxes with a golden lining around the bottom. It says Chanel on the front in white and the name of the lipstick range in gold. I really like the look of that. The lipstick itself comes in a very classic packaging as well, but when it’s laying on its side it does look more boring that I expected. The outside of the tube is completely black and the middle part is gold. On top of the lid you’ll find the Chanel logo in white, but that’s the only decoration on the entire thing.

The Coco Rouge Shine collection from Chanel comes with a ton of shades, 16 to be exact. The shade I bought is called Boy. I don’t know why, but from the moment I saw it I was drawn to it. It actually was the first shade I saw and also the only one. I just knew this was going to be it for me.

Chanel Coco Rouge Shine Lipstick in Boy – €36,70

Boy is a very pretty shade. It’s actually quite unique. It’s a bit of a rosy tone with a shine to it. Normally I’m not into glittery lipsticks at all or shiny, I just like them glossy, but in this case I’m okay with the shine. It’s not too overpowering and it actually does add quite a nice look to the lips. Overall Boy is quite a neutral lip colour, but it isn’t a basic one. It seems a little darker than your regular nude, but it isn’t dark enough to be called a brighter lip colour.

Enough about that. Let’s talk about the claims! According to Chanel this is a lipstick that is soft as a balm and they say it becomes liquid when it comes in contact with the lips. They are supposed to be lightweight and glossy and hydrate the lips for a natural but glossy effect. They’re also supposed to protect your lips and according to Chanel their Coco Rouge Shine lipsticks stay on your lips for up to 8 hours.

Overall it seems like the most comfortable lipstick in the world and also one that could potentially protect your lips. I obviously can’t test if it actually protects my lips so we do have to trust Chanel on that one.

So, let’s go over the claims shall we? Let’s start off by talking about the texture of it. Chanel describes this as a lipstick that is soft as a balm and becomes liquid when it comes in contact with the lips. Even though it is a bit of a vague description, I do feel like it’s true. I don’t know if it actually becomes liquid when it touches the lips, but it does feel really nice.

In other words: when you apply this lipstick it becomes very smooth and easy to spread. It already feels like a balm, but once you put it on it just glides over the lips, almost as if it’s a liquid. It’s very easy to spread, a little bit of it goes a long way and it feels very comfortable and lightweight. I used to be a lipstick hater because I just didn’t like the way lipstick felt on my lips, but lipsticks like this Chanel one are, even for people who hate that lipstick feeling, absolutely amazing when it comes to being comfortable to wear.

Aside from the fact that the texture is very comfortable to wear, I also feel like it’s very hydrating. I have been struggling with pretty dry lips lately and this lipstick really helped me out with that whole situation. It makes my lips feel soft, smooth and hydrated. It’s like a lip balm and lipstick in one.

Pigmentation wise this lipstick isn’t the most pigmented lipstick in the world, but since it’s from the Rouge Coco Shine collection that doesn’t surprise me. This isn’t a lipstick you buy if you want an opaque colour, this isn’t your super rich and creamy lip colour. This lipstick is actually meant to be sheer and soft. I’m personally a big fan of sheer lipsticks since I feel like they’re easier to work with, not as out there even if you do use a brighter colour and I think they’re more comfortable to wear.

The colour that the lipstick does add to the lips is really pretty. It’s a very pretty rosy pink colour that looks good with every look you can think of. It’s quite natural but it is very unique and it’s perfect for every occasion.

Moving on to the staying power. Most sheer lipsticks aren’t the most longlasting ones, which is why I didn’t expect this lipstick to stay in place for too long either. However, it does stay in place very well, even if you eat and drink while wearing it. In my experience it lasts about 4 hours, depending on how much lip-action you’re getting of course, but that is pretty impressive for a sheer and glossy lipstick like this.

Overall I’m just a really big fan of this Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in the shade Boy. The shade is just absolutely stunning, I love the way that it looks. Aside from that it’s also the most comfortable lipstick I’ve ever worn and I’m really impressed by how long it holds up. Overall this is one of my favourite lipsticks, a staple in my collection and I absolutely love wearing it on a daily basis!

And that’s pretty much it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of this lipsticks and what lipstick brand is your absolute favourite!
