The past year all I’ve been using for my brows is my beloved Maybelline Brow Satin. I still do and I still love it as much as I did a year ago, but I did feel the need to try something else for once. I decided to give the Catrice Velvet Brow Powder Artist a try because it’s similar to the powder side of the Maybelline Brow Satin and I could use it in combination with my Maybelline product if the powder side runs out and the pencil side doesn’t. So, long story short: today I’m going to be reviewing the Catrice Velvet Brow Powder Artist. If you’re interested in finding out more about it, make sure you keep on reading!
The Catrice Velvet Brow Powder Artist comes in a similar packaging as an eyeliner would. It’s brown, the same brown as the powder is and it has a spoolie on one end and the powder on the other hand. I do really like that there is a spoolie on one end, but I would’ve liked it better if that was a brow pencil. Aside from that the packaging is perfectly fine.
The brow powder comes in three shades. I bought the darkest shade. The darkest shade is called Dark Brow(n) Is The New Black. I love how this is a reference to one of my favourite shows Orange Is The New Black and I do think it fits really nice with the product.
The darkest shade is perfect for girls (or guys) with medium brown to dark brown hair. I have light to medium brown hair and because I do like my brows quite dark this shade is perfect for me. Obviously it’s totally up to yourself which colour you think fits the best with your hair and skin tone, but in my opinion this is the best option for me.
The way this product works is: you have a sponge on one end. The lid that goes on top of it is partially filled with powder. Because the sponge is pressed into this powder, the powder with transfer onto the sponge and if you go over your brows with the sponge, the powder will be transferred onto you face.
I’m personally a big fan of this whole concept. I think it applies the powder in a really nice and natural way. If you use it combination with pencil it’s perfect to soften the harsh lines of the pencil.
Pigmentation wise this is quite a strong product. I don’t like my brow products to be too pigmented because it only makes it so much harder to apply in a nice way if it is. This product has the perfect amount of pigmentation. It definitely shows up, but it’s not too much.
The only thing I noticed about this product when I compared it to my Maybelline brow product is that this one doesn’t go on as smooth as the Maybelline one. Sometimes this one can be a little uneven, but it’s always possible to fix that using the spoolie, so it’s no big deal.
* Left/top brow: with product, Right/bottom brow: without product.
I usually use this product in combination with a pencil, but just for the sake of this post I decided to use it on its own. And I have to saw, I’m super impressed. I expected it to look a little messy because you can’t really create sharp lines with it, but I’m actually in love with the effect. I think my brows look really natural and put together and they don’t look like they’re over drawn or something. I love it!
The lasting power is more than okay too. Especially if you set it using a brow gel. If you do that your brows will be in place all day.
I think it’s clear that I’m quite impressed by this product. I bought it so I could use it if the powder side of my Maybelline product runs out, but I ended up falling in love with it. The way it makes my brows look is just so amazing and I love how easy it is to work with. If you’re on the hunt for a super easy and natural brow product, go for this one, I love it!
The Catrice Velvet Brow Powder Artist is available at the drugstore for €3,99.
That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post and let me know which brow product is your favourite!
XOXO, Nicole.
