I feel like the Carmex lipbalms have been popular for ever now. Therefore I have always been super curious what the fuzz is about. But because for a big part of my life they weren’t available where I live I didn’t get the chance to find out. In London I came across the strawberry version and decided to buy it and finally find out why the Carmex lipbalms are so popular. Today I’ll be reviewing it. If you’re interested in finding out whether I ended up liking it as much as the rest of the world does or not, keep on reading!
The lipbalm comes in the classic yellow tube with the red lid. I really like this look. The tube itself is packaged in a cardboard thingy. I do like that they do that because this way you’re a 100% sure nobody has opened or touched the product before you bought it and it’s way easier to remove than those annoying stickers or pieces of tape they would wrap around it otherwise.
On the packaging it says that this lipbalm contains SPF 15. That’s definitely one big plus. When it comes to protecting my skin from the sun, I feel like my I always forget my lips. Because this product contains SPF it’s way easier to protect your lips and take care of them at the same time. That’s a win-win situation!
The typical Carmex lipbalm, I believe, is cherry scented. The one I bought however is strawberry scented. I decided to go for the strawberry version because the scent of cherries tend to make me feel really nauseous, so I felt like this would be a better option. The funny thing is that it doesn’t actually taste like strawberry, which is something you would expect. It’s more of a minty scent than a strawberry scent. I don’t actually mind it, but it did confuse me a little.
The texture of the lipbalm is a little different from what I’m used to. It’s a kind of thin, jelly and colorless product which is very easy to apply all over the lips. It’s pretty easy to use actually, but I’m not sure if I like it better than lipbalms in stick form.
Even though I’m not sure about how I like it, I do think the fact that the product is pretty thin is a plus. Lots of solid lipbalms take forever to really sink in. This lipbalm however does stay on the lips for a while, I’d say an hour, but after that you won’t be left with an annoying greasy layer. This makes it perfect to use before applying lipstick.
But most importantly, does it moisturise my lips? It totally does. I’m pretty impressed actually. The best way to use it, in my opinion, is to apply it before you go to sleep. If you do so you will wake up with super soft and non-chapped lips. I really like it.
Over all I think the Carmex lipbalm is a win. I don’t get the extreme hype, ’cause even though it’s a great lipbalm, it’s just a lipbalm. But I do really like it. I love the way it feels on my lips, I love the scent and I love how smooth and soft my lips are after using it. I highly recommend it!
The Carmex Lipbalm in Strawberry is available at the drugstore for £1,65.
