Bobbi Brown Powder Brush: A Good Investment Or A Total Waste?!

17/11/2018

Not too long ago I bought and reviewed the Bobbi Brown Face Blender Brush. It has always been a dream of mine to own a Bobbi Brown brush and let me tell you, it definitely didn’t disappoint. It actually turned out to be so good I wanted to buy another one. I was on the hunt for a slightly bigger powder brush since the one I used to use lost its shape. Bobbi Brown happened to have the perfect one for me in their collection. I’m talking about the Bobbi Brown Powder Brush. I purchased it and started using it and I couldn’t wait to tell you guys about my experience with it. So today it’s finally the day where I’m reviewing it. So if you want to know everything there is to know about the stunning Bobbi Brown Powder Brush, make sure you continue reading this post!

I mentioned this in my Bobbi Brown Face Blender review, and I’m mentioning it again. What surprised me about the packaging of this brush is that it didn’t come in a box. It came in a cheapy plastic bag that was incredibly hard to open. I know that the box it comes in doesn’t matter that much, but somehow it did disappoint me. When you’re spending over €40 on a brush, you at least want the experience around it to be super luxurious. Well the brush is luxurious, but the packaging isn’t.

Having said that let’s get to the positive part about the way the brush looks. The brush is pretty big in size. More specifically it’s quite long. I like that. It makes it easy to hold and it makes it feel very sturdy. Overall I do think that this is a very well-made, sturdy brush. It’s made from good material and it’s glued together well. It’s not a brush that will fall apart after a couple of uses.

I also really like the colours they used on the brush. I like that the bottom part is made of bamboo-like wood. I’m not sure whether or not it’s actual bamboo, but that doesn’t matter. In the end that’s not really what’s going to make a difference. Anyway, that bamboo in combination with the black and the dark hairs, I just love it!

Bobbi Brown Powder Brush – €64,50

Having discussed the looks of the brush thoroughly, lets move on to the brush itself. The hairs of the brush are actual goat hairs. And that you can smell. When I unpacked this brush my whole room started to smell like a farm. I decided to wash it so it wouldn’t smell as bad but when the hairs were wet the stink became worse. After a day the smell wasn’t as strong anymore and after using it a couple of times you can hardly smell it anymore. However it was a very bad smell at first, a smell I wasn’t prepared for.

Anyway, I know what some of you might be thinking: real goat hair, that’s sad! I have to say that I do agree with that, but according to Bobbi Brown no animals are harmed in the process of making this brush. They say that they just brush off the access hairs of the goat and use that to make this brush. I don’t know to what extend that’s true, but I do believe it. It’s not like they sell these brushes like a million a second so I think they have enough time to retrieve the hairs properly. This is probably very naive of me, but well. That’s who I am.

The reason why they used goat hair on this brush is because goat hair is known to pick up powder better than synthetic hair. I did experience a difference in that. It’s not like a mind-blowing difference, but it’s there.

The shape of the brush is really nice. It’s exactly what I want when I’m looking for a powder brush. It’s is fluffy and rather thick, but nothing too thick and bulky. It has a domed shape to it which is ideal for applying powder at more hard to reach areas of the face. When I went online to look up the claims Bobbi Brown made about the shape of this brush I found that she said exactly what I just said. This shape is just perfect for reaching any area of the face. And it’s not just something I’m just saying, I really experienced that. When I compare this brush with other, non-domed powder brushes I own, I feel like this one does the job better. The area around my nose gets oily really quickly. When I apply my powder with this brush compared to other brushes, I feel like that happens much less.

At first I thought that the brush wasn’t really big. Like it’s not one of those extremely large powder brushes. However, that doesn’t bother me in any way. I actually think that it gets the job done just as quickly as any other, even bigger, powder brush does.

What I really like in terms of quality is the fact that the hairs are very flexible. They move over the face in a really effortless and smooth way. They bend along with my face and therefore it reaches every area I want it to. It also makes all of it a very pleasant and comfortable experience. It’s very soft and comfortable feeling. Like you are holding a blanket to your face.

All in all I’m very impressed by the Bobbi Brown Powder Brush. I’m so impressed that I’m actually really excited to buy more and more Bobbi Brown Brushes. I just think that the quality is amazing. Everything about the brush is very well thought out and it works perfectly. The hairs are the softest hairs I’ve ever felt and they are very flexible. The shape of the brush is perfect for its purpose and all of that makes this brush worth it for me. I also think that buying a brush like this is like an investment. It’s expensive now, but this brush will stay with me for years and years to come. So if you do want to invest in your brushes as well, I do think that this one is an essential to have in your collection!

That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know whether or not you think this brush is worth its hefty pice tag!
