For the longest time I’ve been wanting to try out one of the Bobbi Brown lipsticks. I don’t really care from what collection, I just wanted one. From what I’ve seen these lipsticks seem to be the most comfortable things to wear and the colours are gorgeous. Back in Warsaw I finally bought my first (two) Bobbi Brown lipsticks and today I’m going to review the first one. The first one that I’m going to review is the Bobbi Brown Lip Color in the shade Brownie Pink. If you’re interested in finding out what this lipsticks is like and if it’s worth the huge price tag, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off by discussing the packaging. I think everyone who knows Bobbi Brown knows that they have the most amazing simplistic packagings. Most of their packagings are just plain black with the logo in it. This lipstick is no exception to that. It comes in a gorgeous shiny black tube with a golden lining along the middle and the name of the brand on the side. It feels quite heavy for a lipstick and that in addition to the look of the packaging creates a very luxurious feel. It’s one of my favourite lipstick packagings! And by the way, doesn’t it remind you ever so slightly of a Chanel lipstick packaging?
Bobbi Brown has a couple of lipstick ranges at the moment. One of those ranges is the Lip Color range. I believe this is one of their most basic ranges, since it doesn’t have anything special in the name. This range consists out of about 22 shades of lipstick with a creamy, semi-matte finish. This lipstick is from that range, but it is from a special collection called the All Brow, Only Brow collection.
Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Brownie Pink – €28,55
I have to say that buying a lipstick called ‘Brownie Pink’ is quite a daring thing for me. I’m usually not that into brown lip colours, partially because I think they just don’t look good on me. But somehow I was in a daring mood when I came across this lipstick which is why I ended up buying it anyway. And I have to say I’m happy that I decided to go for it. I already have a million basic nude pink lipsticks, it’s time for me to spice things up and try something a little more unique for once.
But enough about that, let’s discuss the colour. Brownie Pink is actually a really good name for the colour. The lipstick is a combination between brown and pink, which creates a really pretty slightly darker nude colour with a bit more brown to it than most nude colours do. It’s might seem a little basic, but in real life it’s definitely a unique colour. I feel like this is the perfect colour for those who do want to step out of the usual nude-zone a little but don’t want to go too overboard with it. I really like it.
Like I said this lipstick is from the Lip Color range, which means that it’s a very rich and creamy lipstick with a semi-matte finish. Usually I like to stay away from matte lipsticks, but because this is creamy and semi-matte I was willing to give it a try. And I have to say, that description of the texture is pretty accurate. It sounds like you’re saying it’s two opposites which is pretty unrealistic, but it actually is and I’m a big fan of it.
This lipstick is pretty much one of the best lipsticks I’ve ever tried when it comes to the texture. I think it’s on the same level as YSL lipsticks and for the longest time no lipstick in the world has been able to reach that level, so that’s pretty impressive. You can feel how rich and creamy it is once you apply it. But even though it’s rich and creamy, it’s not too heavy or thick. It glides onto your lips like butter but it’s not as heavy as butter on your lips would be.
Because of that the lipstick applies very easily and also very evenly. It’s a dream to work with and amazingly comfortable to wear. A couple years ago I hardly wore lipstick because I just didn’t like the feeling. Well, I have to say this one is definitely one I would have liked, even back then. It’s not heavy at all and after a while you don’t even feel it on your lips. Aside from that it’s not extremely dry but also not extremely slippery, it’s just like you’re wearing nothing.
The downside to most creamy lipsticks is that they don’t really last as long. Well, this one is an exception to that. Because it dries down as a semi-matte lipstick it actually stays in place all day. It survives eating, drinking, the whole shebang. It even survives me trying to rub it off. If that doesn’t amaze you, I don’t know what does.
Pigmentation wise this is a winner as well. I mean look at it. Doesn’t it look like the smoothest, most comfortable and richest lipstick in the world. It only takes one swipe for it to look this pigmented and that’s also a reason why I love it. Thanks to the nice shape of the lipstick it’s also very easy to apply, even for people who have super shaky hands and are horrible at applying lip products like me.
One thing I do want to mention is that this picture is taken pretty much right after putting the lipstick on my lips. After a couple of minutes however it does start to get a more matte finish. It won’t be super matte, not at all, but it will become semi-matte. What that means is that it doesn’t feel wet or creamy anymore and it’s not as shiny anymore but it does still have that natural glow your lips usually have. I really like that finish, it’s the best of both worlds.
Overall I think it’s pretty clear that this lipstick has blown my mind. I knew that Bobbi Brown was a pretty amazing brand, but I honestly didn’t expect to ever find a lipstick as nice as the YSL Rouge Volupte ones. My lord! This lipstick literally has everything you want a lipstick to have. It’s comfortable, it’s pigmented, it stays in place all day, it has the most perfect finish and it goes on like a dream. If you’re a lipstick lover you definitely have to try this!
And that’s everything for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoy wearing this lipstick, and be sure to let me know if you have ever tried a Bobbi Brown lipstick and if so be sure to let me know what shade it is and how you like it!
