Benefit Eye Got Brow! Makeup Set

13/08/2018

About two years ago I discovered how amazing the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil is and how amazing angled brow pencils are in general. This product quickly became my holy grail and even though I have switched up my brow product every now and then throughout the years, I always came back to this little guy. The Goof Proof Brow Pencil. Because of that I bought this little set about a year ago that includes this pencil as well as some other products. Today I’m going to tell you guys everything about it and whether I think this set is worth getting or not. If you’re interested in reading about that, make sure you continue reading!

Let’s start off by talking about the main product of this set, the reason why I got it in the first place. The Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil. This pencil comes in a gorgeous silvery packaging. It has two sides. On one side you’ll find a spoolie brush and on the other side you’ll find the pencil itself. The pencil isn’t round, it actually has three sides, thanks to which this pencil won’t roll of your desk or beauty table. This I find a great advantage about the packaging. I also like the pink letters on it and overall I think the packaging looks just absolutely incredible. I think it’s a fun yet professional looking product and I am all about that.

The Goof Proof Brow Pencil by Benefit is part of their huge brow collection which was launched about 2 years ago. Maybe 2.5 years by now. Anyway, the collection came with four different types of brow products: a pencil with a precise tip, a pencil with a slanted tip, a powder and a gel/pomade kind of product. I’ve always been a huge fan of pencils which is why the two pencils seemed most appealing to me. The reason why I felt so attracted to the slanted pencil is because it seemed like it would be a lot quicker and easier to fill in my brows with that, which ended up being exactly that.

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil – €27

The Goof Proof Brow Pencil comes in a few different shades. The shade that I usually use and that comes in this set is shade number 3, which is called Medium. For me this is just the right shade. It’s actually the most perfect brow pencil shade I have ever tried. I have medium brown hair and this is just a tad bit lighter than my natural hair colour, making it a wonderful match. It won’t look too heavy or extreme but it’s not too light either. It also has exactly the right amount of warmth to it for me which makes it an even better match.

Moving on to the quality of this pencil. As you already know by now I’m a huge fan of this brow pencil so I’m sure it won’t come as a surprise when I tell you I’m a huge fan of the quality of this product. But instead of just saying that I will now explain to you why I love it so much.

First of all I think that Benefit got the texture just right. For me a brow pencil does have to be a tad bit waxy so it goes on easily and it will look smooth and all, but it shouldn’t be too waxy because if it is too waxy it could slip and slide everywhere and it wouldn’t be too longlasting. This pencil is right in the middle, right where I want it to be. It’s a bit waxy but it’s not too much and that is one of the main reasons why I like it so much.

I also really like how quick it is to work with this pencil. Because of the slanted tip it’s much quicker to work with and easier to get straight lines in my opinion. I also think that it creates a more natural and softer look, but that might just be because I’m not experienced enough to work with a regular, precise pencil. I also think that this pencil has exactly the right amount of colour pay off making it easy to get the product in your brows quickly without overdoing it.

Lastly I’m a big fan of the staying power of this pencil. This product stays in place all day long. Also if you’re sweating, if you’re freezing and it even survives a bit of water. It’s not waterproof, I have cycled through the rain once and that it didn’t completely survive (I have to admit that it was a heavy rainstorm, but still, it didn’t survive it fully), but overall it stays in place all day and it really is a product you don’t have to worry about all day long.

Overall I’m just a huge, huge fan of the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil. I love how quick and easy it is to work with. For me this really is a fool proof product that I can only achieve the perfect brow-look with. It’s easy to use, the colour matches my brow colour perfectly, the quality is amazing and it stays in place all day. What more can you want?!

Moving on to the second product, the Benefit Ready, Set, Brow! Brow Gel. This is a little mini version of the full size, but I do have the full size as well so I know for a fact that there are no differences there. The only difference between the full size and the mini is the size and the colour of the packaging. The full size (on the left) is shiny and silver and the mini one is grey and not shiny. The full size is a big thicker than the mini and aside from that they’re exactly the same. I personally really like the look of the packaging. I think it’s fun and girly and I like that.

Benefit actually has multiple brow gels in their range and so far this is the only one I have tried. This is a clear brow gel and it actually has a very unique texture and wand. The first time I used it I wasn’t completely sure what to think of it and whether I liked it or not, but after using it for a longer period of time I actually ended up really enjoying this brow gel. It really works well for me personally.

Like I mentioned this product does have a unique wand. On one side the bristles are quite long and on the other side they are short. Instead of being round this wand is flat actually and that is something that takes some getting used to in my opinion. At first I really didn’t know what the best way to use this was, but nowadays I do. I use the short side for really getting the product into my brows and I use the long side for distributing it more evenly. I do think it’s important to wipe off some of the excess product when you’re breaking open a new packaging, in order to not get too much in your brows all at once.

Benefit Ready, Set, Brow! Eyebrow Gel – €27 (full size)

Anyway, when it comes to the quality of the product itself I’m very positive. The gel does have a slightly different texture than I expected. It’s a bit more like syrup than a gel. Thanks to that texture your brow hairs will stay in place literally all day long. It also feels really nice because it doesn’t feel wet on your face. When it comes to the way it looks in the brows I also think it’s a lot prettier compared to normal brow gels. You know when you get a bit too much gel in your brows and it starts to create like strands of hair that make it look a little odd. This gel doesn’t do that and that’s all due to the amazing texture of it.

Because it is a clear brow gel it obviously doesn’t alter the colour of your brows. For me that’s a huge plus. Back in the day I was all about the tinted brow gels. I used them in combination with brow pencil and that did result in pretty strong, maybe even too strong, brows. You know, a tinted brow gel can be pretty pigmented and make a perfectly filled in brow a too strong brow. This clear brow gel doesn’t do that at all. It just perfects what you’ve done underneath it and keeps it looking like that all day long.

Obviously you can also use this without filling in your brows beforehand. You can use it on days you want to go eau naturel. It can make sure your brows don’t look extremely wild without using too much product.

Overall I do really like the Benefit Ready, Set Brow! Eyebrow Gel. It’s a unique product and it works really well for me. I’m a fan of the texture and overall I’m definitely going to repurchase this. Since I’m writing this review after having it for over a year, it’s nearly empty so I’m actually sure I will be buying this again this summer. It’s the best eyebrow gel ever. It’s a bit of an investment, but it is worth it for me!

Lastly we’re going to discuss the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara. This is a mascara I have heard a ton of good things about, but for some reason I never got around to trying it for myself before. As you can tell this is a mini-size version of the Roller Lash mascara and therefore the shape of the packaging is slightly different compared to the real deal. However, the colours are the same. The tube itself is black and the rest of the packaging is pink, including the letters. I love this combination and I think it looks really adorable. The full size also has a much cuter shape than this one and I like that a lot as well!

Looking at the wand I do expect to like this mascara. I do really like those silicony wands, those work best for me. This one is just like that and it indeed really fits my style. It’s great for separating the lashes, curling them and making them look longer at the same time. It also adds a ton of volume and it’s really easy and fool proof to work with because it isn’t extremely thick or anything like that!

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara – €27 (full size)

In terms of quality I’m a huge fan of this product. The mascara has a bit of a liquidy texture, thanks to which it feels very lightweight to wear. It’s not a heavy mascara at all. It’s easy to coat your lashes with it and you do get quick results. You can build it up but you definitely don’t have to if you don’t want to. One coat is enough to get this nice curled lash look with tons of length and some volume.

The only downside to this mascara for me is the fact that it smudges on me really, really badly. I don’t know why exactly this happens, but every time I wear this I do get some underneath my eyes throughout the day. I’m a contact lens wearer so that can be the cause of it, but I don’t have this same problem with other mascara’s. If I bake my under eye area it doesn’t happen as quickly, but it still does. When you cry or stand in the rain it will definitely smudge too, so if you’re looking for something that stays in place well or survives a bit of water, this ain’t it!

Overall I do like the mascara. I really like the wand of it and I like the effect it has on my lashes. I really like the results. It’s just an overall good-looking mascara. The only downside to it is that it just smudges on me like crazy, so I don’t wear this on a day my makeup has to look good a-okay all day long. However, I do wear contact lenses, so if you don’t, you might not have this problem!

Overall I really like this little set. The Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil is just the best eyebrow pencil on earth. It’s so nice and so easy to work with. The Ready, Set, Brow! Eyebrow Gel really impressed me. I used to be someone who didn’t like to splurge on eyebrow gels, but I am getting a new one of it since mine is already finished! The mascara is really nice as well, but it does smudge on me!

That’s about it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what your favourite brow product is and what you think of the Goof Proof Brow Pencil by Benefit!
