Of course there are no rules in makeup and you can do whatever the hell you want with it, but there are certain things the main public isn’t a big fan of. However, you do see a lot of people making these ‘beauty mistakes’. I don’t really know how I came up with it, but recently I thought it might be fun to dedicate a post to ‘beauty mistakes’, some, maybe even most, of which I have made myself too. So, if you’re in for a laugh or just interested in seeing which makeup mistakes I used to make, make sure you continue reading!
The brow drama
Brows are definitely one of the most difficult things to do right in makeup if you ask me. I’m still not that great at doing my brows and I don’t really think I’ve got the right technique. Because brows are such a tricky part of your makeup routine, it’s not weird that it goes wrong very, very often. And to be honest, a lot of things can go wrong with brows. Some examples can be:
- Drawing them on too big
- Plucking them too much
- Making them too dark
- Using a too harsh product, so they end up looking like you’ve drawn them on with sharpies
- Weird shapes
You name it, lot’s of things can go wrong. The main mistakes I used to made, and still make, are sometimes using a too dark pencil to draw them in and I do sometimes make boxy-brows. That means that you just draw a line around your brows and fill them in like a drawing. I do that because I don’t have technique and well, it kinda works for me I guess, but I know people can do it a lot prettier than I can.
Eyeliner is another product that can really make or break a makeup look. I don’t use eyeliner and I do have a reason for that. The reason why I don’t use eyeliner anymore is because every single time I did use it, it completely ruined my look. Things that have gone wrong while using eyeliner are:
- Drawing the line way too far from your lash line
- Getting uneven wings
- Drawing the wings facing down
- Too thick line
- Smudging it everywere
- Accidentally getting a dot in the middle of my eye look and not really feeling like removing it?
As you can tell eyeliner can go wrong and all of these things have happened to me more than once. That’s why I choose not to use it, however I do think it looks really good on other people. But I’ve definitely seen people around who do need to practise.
Contouring is another big hit or miss if you ask me. If done right, contouring can be a very great technique that creates a super pretty look. However, if done wrong, and trust me I have seen this go wrong more than you’d think, it can look like you have literally cut your cheek with brown paint. Things that I’ve seen going wrong are:
- No blending????
- Too thick layer of product
- Too dark colour
- Strange contour-locations
I have to say that throughout the years the contouring I have seen around me has gotten a lot better, but I do still see a lot of blotchy cheeks all around me and that really needs to stop.
Heat rush or blush?
The next big mistake I have seen is people going crazy with their blush. It ends up looking like they have a rash or a heat rush. I mean it’s okay if you think that’s a good look, but I’m pretty sure you didn’t intend to look like you’re running a fever right? Blush can look absolutely stunning and more often than not it does, but please be gentle with it and don’t apply it at the wrong places. And also: use an actual blush colour, don’t use a whole pan of bronzer on your blush location.
Lip liner craze
Lip liner is another difficult product if you ask me. I don’t really use it all that often because I think it’s a product that doesn’t really work for me, but I do know for a fact that there are a lot of people out there who think differently about lip liner. Things I’ve seen going wrong:
- Too dark lip liner
- Too light lip liner
- Lips lined outside of the lips
- Black lip liner???
Lip liner can possibly really help to amp up your lip look, but please make sure the colour of your lip liner somewhat matches the lipstick you put on top!
Obviously I can come up with tons of other beauty mistakes that I (used to) make, but this was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading this post, please don’t take it the wrong way this is just meant as a joke, and be sure to let me know which beauty mistakes you have seen in the world around you!
