Because I have been struggling with severe dryness underneath my eyes and very sensitive skin I decided I needed to buy something I could smear on it that would solve the problem. I wanted something very sensitive but very moisturising. After browsing the internet a bit I came across this Avène Cicalfate Cream. I ended up buying it and today it’s time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out how I ended up liking it and if it actually solved my eye problem, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with discussing the packaging like we do in literally every review ever. So, this Cicalfate cream comes in a white box. The box has quite a lot of text on it ad the logo. It has quite a medical look to it, but I do really like that. The tube itself is made out of a metal like kinda material (I really don’t know how to describe it) and it looks pretty professional. I really love the look of it. It might remind you of some sort of medical cream your doctor prescribed for you but I love it.
The tube contains 40ml of product which is the same as 1.35 fl oz. I think that’s quite a great amount. Because of the texture you only need a tiny little bit of product to cover the area of your choice so this product will last you for quite some time. That’s one thing I’m pretty sure of.
So, on the back of the tube Avène tells us a little more about this product. They say that this cream will help restore the skin’s cutaneous barrier, recommended to soothe skin discomfort. So in short it’s a cream you can put on whatever place on your body to soothe discomfort and restore your skin’s problems. Even though it’s not specifically meant to be put on your eye-area, I did feel like it was going to be the perfect product for me.
Before I jump into if it actually worked for me or not, I quickly want to go over the scent and the texture of this product. First of all the scent. The scent isn’t very special or strong. It’s actually rather neutral and that’s really nice. There is no perfume in it (hence the basic smell) and no alcohol either so it’s also sensitive enough for those of you who have very sensitive skin.
The texture of this cream is really nice. It’s quite a thick cream but it’s not overly greasy. It’s very easy to blend and a little bit goes a long way (I put way too much on my hands for this picture, half of my body ended up being covered in it). It also sinks into the skin at a reasonably normal pace. Of course a heavy cream like this won’t sink in in a matter of seconds, but it doesn’t take over 5 minutes either.
Having said that, let’s move on to if it actually end up solving my eye problem or not. I can quickly answer that with a yes. I think that the area underneath my eyes was just very, very dehydrated and irritated and this cream helped to soothe it and restore the moisture balance. After using this cream for a couple of days, about two or three, I got rid of the whole problem. I was so relieved that it did since I had been struggling with it for a while and it’s just not a good look.
I still use this cream a few times a week as an eye cream to keep the area underneath my eyes in the state it is in right now, because if I don’t it might go back to the way it was and I really, really don’t want that.
Aside from using this cream underneath my eyes I also use it on dry patches on my skin. During the winter time my skin tends to get quite dry, especially around my elbows and knees. If it’s really getting out of hand and a regular body butter isn’t working anymore I like to smear this all over it and the whole area feels as new.
It’s definitely a bit of a wonder cream for me because it’s so quick and easy to use and it solves all of my skin problems in a heartbeat. It’s absolutely amazing!
Overall I’m really glad I decided to buy this cream because it solved a problem I had quite a lot of worries about. Aside from that it’s just a very handy cream to have on hand since you can use it everywhere on your body and it will quickly get rid of dry patches. I highly recommend buying this if you ever struggle with dry or sensitive/irritated skin or if you just want to have a multi-purpose cream like this on hand.
The Avène Cicalfate Restorative Skin Cream is available at Lookfantastic for €8,95.
That was it for today’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you use to get rid of very dry patches on your skin!
XOXO, Nicole.
