I have been a contact-wearer for about 10 years by now. But every now and then I like to wear my glasses. For example when my contacts are feeling uncomfortable. This wasn’t a big deal, until I decided to buy a car. Now there are times where I need to drive with my glasses on and since my eyes aren’t big on bright sunlight, that meant I needed to get a pair of prescription sunglasses. Because I don’t wear them all that often, I thought it would be best to buy some affordable ones. That night I saw an ad on television from Charlie Temple and the day after that I ordered my very own pair of prescription sunglasses on Charlie Temple. Today I’m going to review them for you and let you know what my experience with Charlie Temple was like. If you’re interested in reading about that, make sure you continue reading this post!
Okay, let’s talk about the sunnies I got. On Charlie Temple there’s a lot of choice when it comes to sunglasses. I do like mine pretty basic and I love a brown/turtoise look in the frame. This quickly resulted in a frame called ‘Sam’ in the shade Garnet Havana. This is a pretty basic frame with round glasses. The frame isn’t excessively big and therefore it fits really nicely on my reasonably small face. The frames are little more round than I’m used to, making this a pretty funky pair of sunglasses. All in all I am really happy with the frame I chose.
In terms of quality I feel like the frame is pretty reasonable. I wouldn’t say these are the most sturdy or well-made sunglasses I have ever had. Compared to my beloved Ray-ban sunnies I have to say this is definitely a step downwards. But considering the price point these sunnies are at, I’m really okay with it.
The fun thing with these frames is that they are available in different shades and that you can get them as a pair of sunglasses but also as a pair of normal glasses. You can only find this particular frame at the ‘sunglasses’ category, but if you click on ‘normal glass’ they can make it into a normal pair of glasses instead of sunglasses.
Charlie Temple Sunglasses Sam Frame – €25-75
When you have decided on a frame, you have to fill out your prescription. You can get this measured at your local optometrist. They don’t have a store themselves where you can get your eyes measured. If you need more than -2 or +2, they recommend you get the premium thin and lightweight kind of glasses. This adds another €25 to the total order price. There is an option where you can get the glasses for free and you only pay for the frame. But if you’re like me and your eyes are pretty bad, that option isn’t an option for you anymore. If your eyes need more than -4 or +4, you need the even more expensive option costing you an additional €50. This does make the order a lot more pricy than it initially looks like.
In the end I went for the premium thin and lightweight option, resulting in a total price of €50 for a pair of prescription sunnies. Not too bad, but not as cheap as they advertise with. Don’t really blame them for that, it’s marketing. But still, it hurts. Anyway, if you take this type of glass and if you want sunglasses instead of normal glasses, they claim your order will arrive within 3 working days. In my case that wasn’t true. It took over 2 weeks for my glasses to arrive and guess what: I received a pair of children’s glasses. Not even sunglasses, just normal children’s glasses. I contacted the costumer service and after countless emails and calls they finally fixed it for me and got me my actual pair of sunnies. I’m not completely satisfied with their costumer service since they weren’t really friendly on the phone and it took quite a long time for them to actually respond. But in the end I have my sunnies and I’m happy about that.
The sunnies themselves fit me nicely. They didn’t need to be adjusted and if they do, you can find a how-to video about that on their website. They are comfortable to wear and they do make driving in the sun more comfortable for me.
All in all I am really happy with my new prescription sunglasses. They are comfortable to wear and I like the frame a lot. It’s also a very affordable option if you need a pair of prescription (sun)glasses, but don’t want to spend too much money on it. The costumer service wasn’t great in my experience, but well. I’ve got the glasses and they’re fine so I’m good. I’m just not sure if I’ll ever go back there again for a new pair of glasses.
That brings us to the end of today’s post. Thank you guys so much for reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of my new prescription sunnies. Do you have any experience with Charlie Temple?
