A lot of moons ago I bought the Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray for the very first time. I bought a mini because that was more affordable and I loved it. I only used it on special occasions because I had so little, but whenever I did use it I loved it. A while ago that bottle was empty and I was in desperate need for a replacement. All of the other setting sprays I’ve used that weren’t this one, I didn’t love. A couple of weeks ago I finally decided to do it and buy a new bottle of this magic Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray. In today’s post I’m going to tell you guys everything about it and why I (used to) love it so much. So, if you’re interested in finding out about all that, make sure you continue reading this post!
This time I did the smart thing and bought the full-size. In terms of value for money this is way more affordable. In the mini you get 30 ml and you pay €14, which comes down to €0,47 per ml. This one comes with 118 ml and costs €27,40, which comes down to €0,23 per ml. This is literally half of the price per ml you pay for the mini. So be smart about it -especially if you know you (are gonna) love it- and buy the full-size.
Anyway, the packaging has changed a lot since I bought this product the first time. Back in the day the bottle used to be white and now it’s a very deep grey, black colour. The bottle has this rubberised plastic feel to it which I really love and it feels nice and sturdy. The text on the bottle is purple and I really like the look of that in combination with the black. The bottle comes with a purple spray thingy and two caps. There’s one tiny cap that covers up the spray thingy and a bigger one which fits the size of the bottle itself. At first I thought this was kinda useless, but after having it in my bag while travelling I understand why they did it. Sometimes in your bag the cap can come off and the spray might spray everywhere. Because there’s an extra lid the chances of that happening are a lot smaller.
All in all I do think that the packaging of the Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray looks really really good. I like the colour scheme on it and I’m a big fan of the way it feels. It feels properly produced and it looks just stunning. I’m a fan!
Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray 118 ml – €27,40
Now that we know that the packaging is okay, let’s focus on what’s inside of the packaging. According to Urban Decay their De-Slick Setting Spray is the most powerful oil-control ally. It mists on weightlessly to control oil, deflect surface shine and keep the skin looking beautifully matte. The high-tech ingredients should help keep the foundation, shadow and blush from smudging, sliding or fading, so you hardly ever need to touch up. It says goodbye to shine and hello to vibrant, long-lasting makeup.
The claims might sound a little bit extreme but I actually totally agree. This De-Slick Setting Spray is as amazing as it sounds and I will now explain why. Starting with the mist itself. My main problem with lots of setting sprays is the fact that the mist is a bit heavy. It’s a load of water coming onto your face. In some cases it even tends to smudge the makeup, while it’s made to use when wearing makeup. This spray however is the complete opposite of that. It’s super mild and fine. You can literally hardly feel it. Your face isn’t soaking wet after spraying this onto your face, which is what does happen with a lot of other setting sprays. It’s super, super fine and that’s a big plus for me already.
Moving on to the way it makes my makeup look. Like I mentioned some setting sprays tend to make my mascara smudge. This one doesn’t. This spray actually doesn’t alter the way my makeup looks all too much in general. It keeps it pretty much the way it is. It might take away the excess powderiness or make your skin look a bit more smooth. But rather than fixing this spray will just set it. It locks it in and keeps it there until you decide to take it off. That’s a very important thing to note about setting sprays versus fixing sprays.
Urban Decay has a couple of setting sprays in their range, all with different purposes. I bought the De-Slick one because I have oily skin and this one is aimed to help that skin type. Before I started using it years ago I was a little sceptical about that. Most setting sprays I used until that point actually made me more oily or more shiny throughout the day, because they took away my powder. This one actually helps to keep me matte. How I noticed is by wearing dewy foundations underneath.
I’m not someone who is all-matte in her makeup routine. I actually do like using products that are more dewy and natural looking. However, I don’t want it to get too extreme. Therefore I like to use this spray on top of those type of makeup products. Normally I would get pretty shiny throughout the day thanks to those dewy products, but this spray keeps it under control. If I’m wearing a dewy foundation it won’t take away the natural glow, but it will take away the oily glow. All day long. It’s really bullet proof. When used in combination with more matte foundations it works even better.
Having said that let’s talk about the most important and also the best thing about this De-Slick Setting Spray. This spray locks in your makeup all day long. And with that I literally mean all day long. No matter what you’re doing. Whether you are sweating, whether you’re in a steamy situation or when you’re having a particularly long day. This setting spray will save the day for you. It’s almost like it creates a shield around your face that keeps it fresh and bullet-proof. Nothing can get out and nothing goes in. It’s so incredible and I really haven’t ever tried a setting spray that does that the way the Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray does.
I know that this review is starting to look a bit too positive. I mean there must be something bad about this product right? Well, I’ve been thinking about that and so far I just really can’t come up with anything I don’t absolutely love about this spray. Urban Decay just did it right. They hit the jackpot and created a miracle. I read that this product is made in collaboration with Skindinavia, which is a very amazing brand when it comes to setting sprays. I think Urban Decay is very smart doing that, because this is a product I will continue to buy until the day I die. It’s unique in its kind and that’s exactly why I’m so hyped about it.
For people with oily but also combination or normal skin I just think this is a gem. A gem you need to have in your collection. I can imagine that it might not be especially amazing for people with dry skin, but I don’t think that they would hate it either. I meant this spray isn’t drying. It doesn’t make your skin feel like you’ve sprayed it with hairspray. It’s not tightening or anything like that. But if you do have dry skin you’ll probably not experience the amazing oil-control aspect of this spray, which is one of the main things that I love about it.
All in all I think it’s pretty clear that this product is a holy grail for me. It’s something that I literally can’t live without and these days I use it on a daily basis. It is just one of those products that’s not just hyped for no reason. It’s literally the best in the biz and nothing can beat it. Trust me I’ve tried. But really nothing was better than this Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray. You SHOULD definitely try it, especially if you do struggle with combination/oily skin!
With that being said I think it’s about time to end today’s post. Thank you so much for reading and be sure to let me know which makeup setting spray has stolen your heart!
Ik MOET deze hebben, hij gaat ook meteen op m’n wishlist! M’n make-up verdwijnt gedurende de dag ook vaak bij m’n t-zone omdat die vetter is.
