Not too long ago I received an email from MAC stating that they had a great deal going on. You could buy a set of 3 products worth about €60 and only pay around €30. It seemed like a pretty good deal and a great way to try out some new MAC products so I decided I wanted to buy it. It has been a while since I last bought MAC products so it was about time. Today I’m going to review the first item out of the little set of three, the MAC Rebeleyes Gel Eyeliner. If you’re interested in finding out more about it, make sure you continue reading!
I think that most of you are aware of the fact that I don’t really wear a lot of eyeliner. It’s not because I don’t think it’s pretty but it’s because I’m literally not capable of applying it. I know it’s a process of trial and error, but I’m just not willing to ruin my entire eyeshadow look trying to apply some eyeliner. However, the only type of eyeliner I’ve ever managed to apply properly is gel eyeliner and since this is a gel eyeliner I thought it would be worth the try.
Unlike normal gel eyeliners that come in jars, this one comes in the shape of a pen. It actually really looks like those felt tip eyeliner pens. But instead of a felt tip this one has a slanted rubbery thingy on top through which the product dispenses. It actually looks a little like those slanted eyeliner brushes but with a bigger handle. Because of the shape of the packaging and the shape of the ‘brush’ itself it seemed like a product I might be able to work with. I mean how hard can it be?!
MAC RebelEyes Gel Eyeliner – €22
Moving on to the actual product. According to MAC this is an innovative eye liner with the extremely long-wearing qualities of a gel liner and the ease of a pen. The clicking system and the unique tip give an intense, matte colour to the lids. The lines it made in a way that it looks exactly like a calligraphy pen.
Well that sounds a little over enthusiastic in my opinion. Even if you haven’t tried it out yet you can tell that they’re trying to sell this as some sort of miracle eyeliner that does everything everyone could’ve ever dreamed of and let’s be honest, there’s no such thing as a magical and perfect eyeliner. So no MAC, you’re taking it a little too far there. Not saying all of it is a lie, but what I’m trying to say is that this ain’t some sort of magic product and I don’t think it really looks like a calligraphy pen. I’m sorry.
Moving on to the product. I’m, like I said, not a big eyeliner user so I don’t have a lot of things an eyeliner needs to be in order for me to like it, but one thing it does have to be is nice and black. Like deep black. And more importantly it has to apply evenly. I just don’t think it’s a good look when your liner changed colour throughout the line. Like it can be if you’re trying to make some sort of rainbow eyeliner look which is pretty cool, but for me on a day to day basis that’s not what I’m going for.
Another aspect I think is rather important is that the eyeliner stays in place no matter what. It shouldn’t be moving around or fading throughout the day. It should stay as nice and as black as it was when I just applied it. Aside from those three factors (actually two) I don’t really a have a lot of standards an eyeliner should live up to.
And luckily for MAC this eyeliner is capable of living up to those two simple standards. It is nice and black. It’s actually a very deep black colour that applies nice and evenly and that stays in place all day. After applying it, it dries down and once it has dried down it just won’t budge. It won’t transfer onto your eyelid, it won’t move around and it won’t fade. It just stays in place perfectly. It that ain’t great, I don’t know what is anymore.
Aside from that I do think this is a rather easy product to work with. I’m horrible when it comes to applying eyeliner but with this one I do manage to create a reasonably straight line. I have to say that I stay need a lot of practise especially when it comes to making the line a little thinner, but it’s actually not that bad. I feel like with this gel liner you have way more control and thanks to the silicone tip you don’t have to worry about it moving to much. It doesn’t wiggle as much as a liquid eyeliner brush would and I do like that about it.
So quality wise I have to say I’m not disappointed in this eyeliner. I have always been the biggest fan of gel eyeliners compared to other types and I still think it’s the easiest form of eyeliner to work with if you are using eyeliner and it’s also really nice and black and very long-lasting. I do think that MAC is pushing it a little with those extreme claims, but aside from that I’m quite a big fan of this eyeliner and I’m glad I actually got it!
And that concludes today’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know if you use eyeliner and if you do be sure to let me know which eyeliner is your favourite and what type of eyeliner you like the best!
