Quite some time ago I saw a Youtuber use the Ecotools Perfecting Blending sponges. She said she really liked them and it made me very curious. Sadly they weren’t available here in the Netherlands so I couldn’t try them out, but recently I found them online, bought them and now I have finally given them a go! Finally! So, with that being said: today I’m going to review these new Ecotools blending sponges and I’m going to be comparing them to the original Beautyblender. If you’re interested in finding out what these two are like and if they are just as good or maybe even better than the original Beautyblender, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off by discussing the look of these blenders and the packaging they come in. The Perfecting Blending Duo comes in a plastic case with a recycled paper thingy around it. It’s rather simple but it does look really good. When I look at it, it instantly reminds me of the brand Ecotools and I just love that about it. Overall it just looks absolutely adorable.
Initially I only wanted to get the bigger sponge, but I couldn’t find it on its own which is why I ended up buying the set. The set comes with a pretty large makeup sponge with a rounded bottom and a slanted tip and a smaller version of that. The bigger sponge is a bit of an aqua/teal colour and the other one is more of a lime green coloured sponge. I really like the colours and I’m intrigued by the interesting shape of them.

Having discussed that, let’s discuss the sponges one by one. I’m going to start off with the bigger sponge. Like I said it has a teal colour and it’s quite large. Once you get it wet it will grow even more and become almost twice as large as the original Beautyblender. Because of the size this sponge is perfect for applying makeup to larger areas like your entire face. It works quickly and efficiently.
The shape of the sponge is quite unique. It’s like nothing I have ever seen before. The bottom looks just like any other beauty sponge, but the top is what makes it unique. Instead of a normal tip, this one is slanted. And what makes it unique is that the angle of the slant is different on both sides. I think that’s really unique and it works really nice as well.
Overall I’m a big fan of the slant in general. The tip of a Beautyblender works pretty well for areas such as under the eyes or around the nose, but I feel like this is way more efficient. It works quicker and better. Aside from that it also feels a bit more natural on the skin and I feel like it’s allowing me to get more coverage out of my product. I don’t really know why that’s the case, but it is.
Having discussed the slant let’s talk texture. I feel like the main thing literally every beautyblender look-a-like gets wrong is the texture. The way the blender feels. I’m not exactly sure why it’s so hard for brands to recreate it, but it most certainly is. Because of that I’m always a bit hesitant when it comes to buying makeup sponges that aren’t the actual beautyblender, but since I heard so many good things about this I gave it the benefit of the doubt.
With that being said let’s finally reveal what the texture is like. I have to say it’s a lot more dense than the actual beautyblender -like I expected it to be- but it does remind me a lot of the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge when it comes to texture. That one is a lot more dense than the real beautyblender too, but it’s not dense in a way it could actually cause headaches.
Overall I’m quite a fan of this makeup sponge. I like that it’s so big, I really, really like the fact that it’s slanted and I just like the way it works in general. The only I do think is important to keep in mind is that it doesn’t have that amazing texture the real beautyblender has, but that definitely doesn’t make this a bad sponge!
Moving on to the smaller one. This one is basically the same thing as the one we just discussed but it’s less big. However, that’s not the only difference. I do feel like there’s a slight difference in texture between the two. At first I thought I liked this smaller one better, but after really putting them to the test for a while I’m not sure anymore.
Anyway, I feel like this blender is a little less dense than the bigger one. It’s a very slight difference and I don’t think everyone will even notice, but that’s one thing I personally did notice and that’s a reason for me to prefer this one. The reason why I’m not sure whether or not I actually prefer this one is because I really enjoy the size of the other one and even though this size does allow you even more to get into the small parts of your face, I just like the bigger one better.
Another thing I have noticed about both sponges is that they don’t soak up water like the original beautyblender does. It’s really hard to describe and I don’t think you’d really understand what I’m trying to say here if you have never worked with the orignial beautyblender, but I’m going to try my best to explain it.
Because this blender is so dense it will grow but it won’t feel like it’s filled with water like the original one does. It doesn’t feel very wet and even if you try to wet it for half an hour it still won’t feel wet. It actually feels pretty dry. When you blend your foundation with the original beautyblender you actually feel the water on your skin, you feel that it’s wet and that makes sure the foundation blends in even better. With this blender I don’t feel that as much. It feels like the blender is already saturated with sponge and doesn’t have any more space for water. I don’t think this made any sense at all, but it’s the best way I can describe it.
Because of that this blender does require some getting used to. At least it did in my case. I really like how the original beautyblender feels pretty wet and I really feel like that helps me a lot, so when I discovered this one was a little different on that part I was slightly disappointed. However, after using it for a while I did start to get used to it and I ended up realising that the biggest problem was that I wasn’t used to that feeling. But now that I am I don’t mind it anymore.
Overall I think the Ecotools Perfecting Blender Duo is a great little set with great sponges it in. They’re definitely two of the best makeup sponges I have tried so far, but they don’t beat my beloved beautyblender. However, if you don’t feel like splurging twenty bucks on a sponge, this is definitely a sponge I’d recommend. I’d actually highly recommend it!
And that’s everything I had to say about these two sponges. Thank you so much for reading today’s post and be sure to let me know what you think of them!
