The Chanel Vitalumière Aqua is probably the most well-known foundation in the beauty industry. I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about it ever since I started getting into makeup and until the day of today it’s still a very popular product. Because I’m all about foundations I decided to buy it and give it a try myself. I already have great experiences with the Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet foundation and the Perfection Lumière foundation so I had high hopes for this one. After testing it thoroughly for a couple of months in different circumstances it’s finally time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out more about this extremely popular foundation, make sure you continue reading!
The Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Foundation comes in a very small, rectangular bottle. The bottom part has a skintone colour and the lid is black and has the Chanel logo printed on top. It’s a little squeezy bottle and I actually really like the look of it. Even though I usually feel like pumps look more luxurious on foundations, this kind of packaging just looks really good for some reason. I like that they kept the design very simple, the shape is very sleek and I like that the bottle isn’t bigger than necessary. Overall I think it’s a gorgeous looking foundation bottle with a very convenient-for-travel size. By the way, the bottle contains 30 ml of foundation which is average.
One of the most important factors when it comes to choosing a foundation is choosing the right shade. Chanel doesn’t usually have a too wide shade range, but compared to other Chanel foundations this comes in quite a few different shades. Usually my shade in Chanel foundations is 12 Beige Rose, but since this one came in a lower number, number 10 Beige Pastel, I decided to go for that one because I figured that would be a paler shade option.
Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup – €45,85
When I first used this foundation I realised that choosing shade 10 Beige Pastel might not have been the best choice ever because, to my surprise, it’s actually very yellow. Number 12 Beige Rose leans more to the cool-neutral side which matches my neutral undertone a bit better than a very yellow foundation. Now I haven’t seen 12 Beige Rose in real life so I don’t know if it’s just this shade or if all the Vitalumière Aqua shades are more yellow than normal, but the shade I got has a very yellow undertone.
Even though I’m not as yellow as this foundation is, I do think the shade looks really good on my skin. It might not seem like a perfect match, but once all of my makeup is on it actually looks incredible. I always think that a yellow undertone looks very flattering on all skin tones because it’s just a bit nicer than a very pink undertone, but that’s obviously just personal preference.
In total the shade range consists out of 8 different shades ranging from fairly light to one proper dark shade. Compared to other Chanel foundations this range isn’t the worst since some of the other Chanel foundations don’t even have a proper deep shade, but 8 shades definitely isn’t that impressive and just one deep shade isn’t enough at all. I really think Chanel should work on that!
Having said that, let’s talk claims. According to Chanel their Vitalumière Aqua Foundation is a fluid foundation that energises dull skin. It has an exceptionally fine, fresh and lightweight watery texture that creates an incredibly second skin effect. It has a natural light to medium coverage and is suitable for all skin types. It also contains SPF 15.
Overall the claims aren’t that exciting. For a popular foundation like this one I think the claims are actually pretty boring, however they are very true and I do appreciate that. Not a word of what they’re saying is a lie and that’s a pretty big deal in beauty-world. But before I get ahead of myself let’s dive into the details and find out why this foundation is as amazing as everyone says it is.
Let’s start by talking about the texture since I think that is one of the things that sets this foundation apart from other foundation. Like most of you probably already know this is a very watery foundation. Because of that it’s very, very, very important to shake this foundation incredibly well before you use it. If you don’t do this the foundation will come out as water and the pigment won’t be mixed into that which means you won’t be getting any coverage out of your product. So make sure you really take the time to shake this foundation before you start using it.
After shaking it well the foundation should come out as a watery, yet rich product. It’s, again, very unique and definitely unlike other foundations. Because of this very lightweight and thin formula it’s very easy to apply. A little bit goes a very long way and it spreads out very easily across the face. The coverage you get out of it is pretty okay either. I know that people claim this is a very natural light coverage foundation, but I do think it’s more of a medium coverage. If you apply another layer it might even become medium to full coverage. Of course the amount of coverage does depend on what you use to apply this with, but in general I don’t think it’s a light coverage foundation. I would definitely say medium.
The finish of this foundation is really pretty. It’s a very natural looking product and it definitely gives that second skin look. It has a semi-matte finish but it can also have a slightly dewy finish, I find it hard to pin point what the finish is actually like. It’s just very natural and skin-like and I like that look a lot!
A big reason why I love wearing this foundation so much is because it’s so comfortable to wear. Like Chanel already claims this is an ultra-light foundation and that’s no exaggeration at all. You just don’t feel this foundation on your skin, it really feels like skin. Aside from that it’s also not cakey or patchy at all which makes it even more amazing to wear!
Lastly let’s talk about the wearing time of this foundation. I don’t know why but I didn’t expect this foundation to be the most long wearing product in the world, but in fact I was wrong. This foundation really melts into the skin and stays there all day long. No matter what you’re doing, it stays in place all day.
Overall I think that the Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup is definitely worth the hype. I never really got what the deal was with it, but now that I’ve tried it I understand why people were raving about it so much. It’s just such a natural, lightweight and comfortable foundation and it’s also very pretty. The finish is just gorgeous and the coverage isn’t disappointing either. It has definitely become one of my all time favourite foundations so I’d definitely recommend trying it out if you get the chance!
And that’s everything for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know if you have any experience with the Chanel Vitalumière Aqua foundation or any other Chanel foundation!
