Since today is the last day of Budget Week on Nicolished and tomorrow the first day of Luxury Week, I figured it would be fun to write a post in which I talk about both budget and luxury makeup and compare the two. Is it really necessary to spend lots of money on makeup, or isn’t it? That’s what I’m going to discuss today. If you’re interested in finding out what I think about that, make sure you keep on reading!
Let’s start off with saying that I think that whether or worth products are worth the splurge depends on the type of product. For example, when it comes to highlighter I don’t think you necessarily need to have an expensive one. Some more affordable highlighters can definitely give you a similar glow to a the glow a more expensive highlighters give you.
I’m not trying to say that every budget highlighter is as good as luxury highlighters, but not every luxury highlighter has to be as good as other budget highlighters. I think it really depends on the product. For example, I think the MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter gives a prettier glow than the Too Faced Sweetheart Highlighting beads do. It really depends.
Lipstick is another product I don’t think has to be expensive. I have a ton of affordable lipsticks that I love equally as much as my more expensive lipsticks. For example the Essence lipsticks and the P2 lipsticks all have amazing textures, gorgeous finishes, a wide colour selection and lots of pigment.
For me the main difference between an affordable lipstick and a high end lipstick is the lasting power, and you have to consider for yourself if just a the staying power is worth the big, big price difference.
A product I do think is worth investing in is eyeshadow. I’m not saying that budget proof eyeshadow isn’t good. Not at all. I think budget eyeshadow is absolutely amazing for the price you pay for it, but there are some things that budget brands just don’t do as good as luxury brands which makes me think it’s worth it to invest your money in more expensive eyeshadow.
The main reason why I prefer luxury eyeshadow is because it’s way more intense. Budget eyeshadow can be very pigmented, sometimes even more pigmented than luxury eyeshadow, but it’s not as intense. If you’re not too familiar with eyeshadow this might not make sense at all, but those of you who are into eyeshadow might understand what I’m trying to say here.
Another reason why I think luxury eyeshadow is worth the money is because it stays intense throughout the entire day, while budget proof eyeshadow fades. If you’re not into eyeshadow you might not care a lot about that, and in that case budget proof eyeshadow is good enough, but if you’re an eyeshadow junkie like I am, this is something you take into consideration while buying eyeshadow.
The last category I want to discuss is perfume. Perfume is obviously not makeup, but I still wanted to include it because it’s something I think about a lot. I always think it’s insane to pay so much money for a bottle of scented water, I really don’t get that. But in the end, if I had to choose between having 100 affordable perfumes or 3 luxury perfumes, I’d go for the luxury perfumes. That because they last so much longer and most luxury scents are just a bit more special than most affordable perfumes.
Overall I think that luxury/high end makeup isn’t always better than budget makeup. I think it really depends on the type of product and on what you think is important. The price tag doesn’t always matter.
That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post and please let me know what your opinions are, I’m very curious to see what you guys think!
