Avène is a brand you don’t read about too much, but when you do it’s mostly very positive. Their products are great for sensitive skin, they are effective but they are very mild. So when I saw they also had a range for oily skin I decided to indulge and buy two items. One of the items I bought is this Avène Cleanance MAT Mattifying Emulsion. After testing it thoroughly it’s time for me to review it. So, if you’re interested in finding out more about this product, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with the packaging. The Avène Cleanance MAT emulsion comes in a white box with the Avène logo on it. The little scratch. It’s very simple and clean but I like it. I also like that the Cleanance MAT part is written in blue. This makes it easier to tell what is from the range for oily skin and what is not.
The product itself comes in quite a basic tube. The design is pretty similar to the design of the box and the opening of the tube is very basic as well. Of course the design of the packaging doesn’t matter at all and it doesn’t say anything about the quality, but I do think it would’ve looked better if is wasn’t as basic. Aside from that I do really like the packaging. It’s clean and simple and it looks professional.

Moving on to the product itself. The Avène Cleanance MAT emulsion is a lightweight moisturiser that helps hydrating the skin while controlling oil production. It’s lightweight and gentle and has a formula that combines monolaurin with oil-absorbing microcapsules that regulate oil production and mattify the skin. It also doubles as an excellent makeup base and therefore it holds your makeup in place all day. It’s supposed to be ideal for oily skin.
All of those things sound really good and Avène does a great job at making it sound like it’s all completely true. But is it? Is it really? That’s the question you might want to ask yourself here.
In my opinion Avène has spoken the truth and nothing but the truth. However, they did exaggerate it a little. But to be honest, I would do that too it is was my product. I mean you do need to make it sell, right? Anyway, just like Avène says, this product has a very gentle formula and it helps to regulate the oil production. I totally agree with that. It’s actually one of the most effective oil controlling skincare products I have tried so far.
I also really like how mild it is. That part of the claim is even more true. It’s definitely a product anyone could use, even those who struggle with very sensitive skin. However I don’t think it’s free of perfume so if that’s something your skin does react to you might not want to give it a try, but in every other case you might actually want to.
The texture or the consistency of the product is what I like the most about this product. It’s a gel formula but it’s also rich and creamy. That’s a combination your don’t see that often and that might even sound a little weird and impossible. Yet, it’s really true. It’s a formula that is lightweight and that sinks in to the skin pretty quickly, but it doesn’t feel as ’empty’ as other gel creams. It doesn’t feel like it lacks hydrating capacities. It’s hydrating yet perfect for oily skin and that’s why I love it.
Overall I think the Avène Cleanance MAT Mattifying Emulsion is a great, great moisturiser for people with oily or acne-prone skin who want something mild. It does a great job at regulating the oil production on your skin and it has the most amazing and unique formula ever. It’s one of my current favourite moisturisers and I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for a new one!
And that’s everything for today. Thank you so much for reading today’s review and be sure to let me know if you have any experience with Avène and if you do, let me know which of their products you really enjoy using!
